SatsiSonik has been playing and making music since 1988 and creating visual art since the age of six. After moving to the Bay Area in 1995, it was there he fell in love with dance music. Becoming a VJ was something that happened by accident after falling in with the folks at Dimension 7, San Francisco’s pioneering VJ collective. It was as a VJ he first made a name for himself in the Bay Area performing at a multitude of venues that range from the extreme conditions of Burning Man, the pumping sounds of the SF Underground, as well as many clubs and concert halls across the Bay Area and beyond. As a VJ, he has performed with many local and international artists at some of San Francisco's premiere dance events. Some of the artists he's worked with include Bassnectar, Jane's Addiction, Freq Nasty, Doc Martin, Lee Coombs, Stanton Warriors, and many, many more. As a VJ, he has held down many residencies with the likes of the Wicked, Psychofunkodiscodelic, and Slide. He currently holds residencies with Symbiosis, Raindance, Get Freaky!, and Stimulus.Musically he got his start in the underground SF house scene, then drifted in and out of the SF psychedelic trance scene as a VJ, but quickly exited stage right all things trance after leaving Dimension 7 in 2000. It was then he started DJing, largely influenced by the thriving SF house scene, but soon found that there was more to a beat than the straight 4 on the floor. Flash forward a year and SF is in the grips of a huge influx of dirty nu skool breaks brought over from the UK. It was there that SatsiSonik found the beat he was looking to rock on the wheels of steel. After rocking the breaks for 6 years, SatsiSonik tastes changed while the SF breaks scene began to plateau, with many of the artists and dancers migrating to the mid-tempo beat of glitch and wompy sounds of dubstep. In 2007, SatsiSonik was part of crew that started a party called Stimulus, which was borne out of wanting to show folks that 4 on the floor can hit hard just like a breakbeat. As a resident of Stimulus, SatsiSonik fall back in love with the 4 on the floor persuasions of electro house, techno, minimal, and tech house. Right around the same time he found inspiration in singing and emceeing. He has since emceed with the likes of UK psybreaks pioneers, The Lawgiverz, as well as the Bay Area locals Audiovoid, Neptune, Laird, and others.
SatsiSonik has recently begun to focus more on producing his own music and incorporating that into his DJ sets. His music has a flavor all its own, once described as "electro breakno", a sound that encompasses the broad range of dance music that has influenced SatsiSonik over the last decade.
He currently has DJ residencies with long time Burning Man sound camp, Lush, as well as the aforementioned party, Stimulus. He can also be heard at many of the Raindance events in the Bay Area. He's also been known to throw down at Burning Man since first making a splash there as a VJ in 1998. He currently works out of San Francisco where he manages his crew, AMMO (Advanced MultiMedia Operatives), which focuses on music, film, and live event production.
SatsiSonik's big vision in the dance community is something he calls audio/visual synchology, ie, DJing and VJing simultaneously. Think of synchology as a synesthesia between light and sound. By combining both of his crafts, SatsiSonik is looking forward to taking dance floors to the next level. SatsiSonik is currently working on his second revision of synchology, so stay tuned!
