June 2007:
RE: Polar Bear SOS!!!
The Inslee-LoBiondo Amendment to H.R. 2643 was defeated 188-242 on Wednesday, 27th June.
Led by the Humane Society of the United States and other animal-protection organisations, the Inslee-LoBiondo Amendment was set up to change the H.R. 2643, the House Interior Appropriations Bill, to stop Americans from importing polar bear trophies acquired from hunting healthy and sustainable polar bear populations in Canada.
The defeat of the Inslee-LoBiondo Amendment is a significant loss for polar bears which is having a hard time because of global warming. These animals suffer from lack of food, having to swim further and further to find food due to the melting of the ice in an environment.
Trophies hunters and those who have them on their walls should realise that they participate in an inhuman and irresponsible action.
We are still at the very beginning of understanding our relation with these animals and our responsibility of stewardship of planet Earth.
Should one be proud of having killed an animal that was defenseless and had no other chance than surrender to a gun? Does that make you a brave man? What about being an honorable man if you support the polar bears in their struggle of survival? Can you put a value on a dead polar bear? Can we value millions of years of evolution with a price valued with money? Can a law designed for humans protect the polar bear? Does your heart allow it?
Many thanks to these irresponsible beings that could approve to such evil work. (Read below)
“On behalf of NRA members and sportsmen around the country, I want to commend those congressmen who steadfastly stood up for American hunters and opposed this bill. Many thanks to Reps. Todd Tiahrt (R-KS), Don Young (R-AK), Steve King (R-IA), Rob Bishop (R-UT), Ron Kind (D-WI) and Dan Boren (D-OK).â€
