Changing the rules to the game is what Se’cret, a quartet of teen-age role models is all about. Se’cret brings a new color and spark to the story of adolescence and the situations they deal with on a daily basis. Se’cret offers a soundtrack of songs that hark to the days of Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On,†encapsulating the essence of their world through song, giving voice to what young girl’s lives are like in today’s world. Se’cret touches on subjects their young eyes see daily – from drive by shootings and gang violence, to runaways and boys caught up in the role of being a ‘G,’ not recognizing the standard of being a young man is equally measured by showing sensitivity & respect to his girl. It’s no Se’cret – these teenagers are intelligent beyond their years. The Se’cret message is an unspoken contract of truth and is delivered with urgent grace. Se’cret’s music is complimented by their beautiful harmonies, intoxicating melodies and is forged together by solid beats and blossoming production. Se’cret is one of the rare vocal groups in the company of Xscape, En Vouge & Destiny’s Child, that have the ability to get beyond the words and express true emotion – qualities that would grace a vocal group of any age.
Formed just a year ago, through the popular MySpace site group members Angelique Renee’ Charles - 14, Chloe’ Smith - 13, Jessica Anderson - 15 and Lummani Crowder - 13 are finding their audience by approaching their music with a fresh, honest exuberance, Se’cret can strike you one moment with confidence and clarity, and then charm you the next with the innocence of youth. Similarly, their songs cover a wide range of emotions and experiences. The days of ‘anything for a boy’ attitude are long gone. “Strong girls grow into strong women,†declares Jessica Anderson; Prolific words from this fifteen year-old Columbus Ohio native who sites Beyonce’ as a role model and inspiration. Jessica. Jessica couldn’t have known as an eight-year old that her love affair with the harmonies of the Temptations and the Stylistics would serve as a blueprint for her Se’cret future. “I remember whenever there was a record playing I would sit, listen and learn.â€
“Music is my foundation,†remarks thirteen-year old Chloe’ Smith. A certified military brat, Chloe’ has traveled the globe soaking up the cultures of the continents. Chloe’, the embodiment of a triple threat has already conquered Broadway, playing the role of Little Inez in “Hairspray,†and is currently performing in the teenage cast of Jason Robert Brown’s new musical “13,†enjoying a world premiere run in Los Angeles at the prestigious Mark Taper Forum. “I feel most alive in music,†enthuses Chloe’. “I used to listen to Whitney Houston and pretend I was in concert. I love being in Se’cret and making a difference through example.
Born the youngest of four children, Lummani Crowder, the fourteen year old self-proclaimed jokester of the group was raised in Altadena, California. Known as the ‘little girl with the big voice,†Lummani is starring in the latest Ludacris music video “Run Away Love†as ‘Lil Stacy, the victim of a drive by shooting. “I love to entertain,†remarks Lummani. “I love the spotlight and I’m so happy to be doing something I love to do!â€
Angelique Renee’ Paul was discovered in old Hollywood fashion – while eating ice-cream with her mother and sister a talent scout was stunned by her natural elegance, a virtue that is often the elusive ingredient of stardom. At fourteen-years-old Angelique was born ready for her ‘big break.’ “I think you get energy from challenging yourself.†Angelique explains. “Being in Se’cret keeps life exciting for me.â€
“We want our fans, especially girls to feel good after listening to our music.†they state. We want them to get into the songs, but also listen to the words, and get behind what we are saying and how we feel.â€
