We are a collaboration in the form of a registered organisation called INSPIRAL, a creative arts venture to inspire all. We are a company limited by guarantee (not for profit), with the aim that we will eventually run fixed venue in Watford as a creative arts centre.
The project works in conjunction with like-minded organisations and charities. Events are aimed at creating an inspirational environment for the community, looking at alternative interests to booze and football culture.
In less than a year of Inspiral we have achieved a lot of what we set out to do but there is still more to come. Those who have followed us closely will have seen our fortnightly Flag gigs grow in every sense, from the visual set up becoming more elaborate and the bands more diverse to the number of people attending and the amount going on. We have also managed to contribute to community events such as Celebration!2007 and the Starfish ward Christmas Party. So far our finest moments have been our two biggest events;bFirst of which, to mark the end of the summer holiday was Inspiralfest which included two gigs on the last weekend of the summer for an 'all-ages' audience. We brought the bandstand at the top of the town to life with live music, arts & crafts and circus performers. We also took over Watford skate park on the Sunday and with over a thousand people going in and out of the park through the day we treated the community to skate, bmx and roller blade comps, live music, live djs, fire juggling and live graffiti art. The second of these gigs was our theatrical extravaganza; Subtopia. We sold out the 600 capacity Palace Theatre for our play/gig/juggling show/dance performance which included all local talent from set design to actors and a space ship taking off out of the roof of the theatre!
With the experiences we have gained we are going to be putting on more exciting and interesting events, in the vain of Inspiralfest, every 6 - 8 weeks rather than our fortnightly gigs and we will be running community based projects such as art, music and juggling workshops.
