Band Members: Take crack Take Crack (do as i say not as i do) is a little music project created by the brilliant minds of Rob (whatever his last name is) and magicmike. We are an experimental jam band, no two shows sound the same and we have had played with many great musicians who have gelled beautifully on the stage. Generating such brilliant music wich ebs and flows into one ear, liquidises your brain then drains it slowly from the other...we play every sunday at the horn's acustic cafe and if you would like to play drop us a line. Good night and God bless
Influences: your mum!but these guys are also a very heavy influence
Sounds Like: This is one of Take Crack Take Crack's first performances-Here is a review on Roadrunner who will be gracing us with their presence on the 24th october. Dig it!!Nicotine, sweet nicotine. Anyhow, back inside handed in that shitty card, stepped over the inebriated underager’s, open the doors and I feel as though I’ve stepped back in time. Back some 30 years to a time of flairs, scarves, tight t-shirts, glitter and good honest rock ‘n’ roll-blues. It ain’t been played properly since the 70’s and hats of to em’ they do it fucking well.Yes I’m at Club 85 to see Roadrunner launch there self titled album and to see what all the fuss is about and trust me, it was worth it! But before I carry on and make their egos any bigger I want to talk about the night in general…Well me and my mate come up from sunny St. A and after a journey of much drinking and much smoking (only fags of course, honest mum) we were extremely merry and well on our way to have one good night. We stepped into what is the last surviving venue of Hertfordshire’s young music scene and where hit with one hell of a noise!!Sugar daddy, I’d heard so much yet witnessed so little and man, it was worth the wait. Seventeen years of age but playing funk as though the very spirit of George Clinton was living in every one of them. Andy on the drums makes a very competent job of creating that skatty funk beat and ties in very well of the slapping and mellowing of Tim k on bass. Then we have Connor doing his thang with that staccato, choppy guitar sound that he has nailed. All this builds a great fluffy pillow of music for the brass section (Luke and Rich) to flow in and out of with great punctuation. Bringing us finally to Tim D who has a great presence on stage. He also knows how to work a funk lyric no more so than on ‘Do’(check it out). “if you got Funk then you’ve got styleâ€(as said by Pedro Bell) and they got plenty of both!!Now it all got a little bit hazy after that as a friend and myself decided to do a few shots but I will try my best. The rocketeers took the stage with a different edge, hard, rockin’ and punk. Not really my cup of tea but a very competent band with a very tight sound and they really got the kids moving everyone was really digging it, but I was really digging the sambuka at the bar.Boy, Roadrunner put on one hell of a show, when they got up there they looked as though they owned that stage. Dressed in a real old school fashion, James Bay (guitarist) looked the spitting image of Nils Lofgran, whilst keyboardist, Dave Nicholas would have looked at home playing alongside Ian Durry and the Blockheads. Now fashion and good looks aside I was genuinely impressed with the vigorous power that the band played their tunes with, and what well written tunes they are, such as ‘time will fade away’ which would not have looked out of place being played by Free. Tom Richwood, the drummer kept the beats constant and was able to carry a song very well indeed and alongside James Boardman, bassist, they create a very solid rhythm section. The energy between guitarist, Peel and the brother’s, Alex and James Bay was electrifying, working of and evolving with one another from one song to the next. At times the tension rose between some members of the band as Dave leapt forward to be able steal a few kisses of his screaming and adoring fans, pursued by stern looks and stern words, fucking rock ‘n’ roll man!The night came to a close as energetic as it ended just there was more screaming, more cheering and a lot of exhausted faces and deservedly so, I’d have played good money for a performance like that. So anyone who ain’t seen em’, get your arse in gear and check em’ out, you can do this on the 24th October at the Horn in St. Albans playing for yours truly (shameless self promotion).Magicmike xxxSee you in Albion…so for all you fucking muggy little si's that missed the one stonker of a gig heres your last chance!
but dont forget our beautifull night of shombolic idiodicy on the 21st november at the horn with the honerable Carnabyhouse, Frank Butcher and the Slags and the reunion of the Zipheads their 21st on the 21st!
