Hi. my name is Allison . I am a singer-songwriter from the L.A / Ventura area working on several musical projects at once. One is a semi acoustic cd called "Changes". This softer cd that Gregg calls "Ali's solo project" (silly because his input is all over the place) has a more acoustic point of view.
I tend to write about subjects that are more on the serious side like growth changes, hard choices, a friends battle with schitzophrenia, or the like, because those kinds of topics move me to need an outlet of expression. So off I go, with a piano or a guitar into a room with a tile floor and a high ceiling only to come out hours later with a new song.
I have been writing for years, but until recently, I was never really prolific, only writing about a song or two a year. I realized that there are no rules to expressing yourself, and found that the subjects that moved me, seemed to move my audiences as well. So I set out to make an all acoustic record (and in the process, met, and married my producer, engineer, multiinstrumentalist, co-writer husband Gregg Olson.)
The other project is with my band "23 Degrees to Vertical" , and currently has one album out called "Closer To You" and a 2nd cd is in the works entitled "Sanctuary". Neil Peart from the band RUSH has had many journeys on his motorcycle, and one of his tales led me to write about it, and hence the title. My husband Gregg is the driving force behind this project, writing most of the music and myself handeling lyrics and vocals
Having no record label pressure to keep the songs in the radio friendly format of 2 or 3 min .( Does radio even exhist anymore anyway ? ) I have enjoyed the freedom of expressing ideas and concepts that can't and should not fit in a format that was designed to get to the next advertisment as soon as possible. I am extremely excited to be a part of the current and building Art and Progressive Rock movement.
I would like to say a special thanks to James Conrad Auld for his beautiful artwork on the cover of the "Changes" cd, and the cover art for "Closer to you", and "Sanctuary".
