23 Degrees To Vertical

23 Degrees to Vertical was formed by Allison vonBulow and Gregg Olson in 2002 out of a strong commitment to provide a source of music for people that demand sonic and emotional depth in the music they listen to.

23's vocalist, Allison vonBulow, has one of the strongest and most intelligible voices in rock, and has been compared to the likes of Ann Wilson and Joni Mitchell. 23's Guitarist, Gregg Olson, is a virtuoso in his own right, and blends his soulfull playing with the chops and fire of artists like Eric Johnson and Steve Vai.

Unrestrained by record label budgets, and control, they built a professional recording studio in a house in Ventura CA., and over the next two years, wrote and recorded their first album "Closer to You". Maintaining an inspirational work environment, they spent months writing in a hyper creative state, trying as much as possible to push themselves both emotionaly and musically. They also played all the instruments on over 90% of the album.

Both Allision and Gregg have strong and diverse musical influences. Allison comes from a singer / songwriter background. Gregg has eclectic tastes, leaning towards progresive, jazz and atmospheric music. We thought it would be intresting to combine the two very different approaches in not only the writing process, but the engineering and mixing stages as well . What came out of that effort is a colorfull tapestry of lush chords and moving musical passages that never loose sight of the intent of the songs. Combine that with audiophile recording and mixing techniques, and you have a record that harks back to the glory days of album rock!!!!
