Psycho Punk Granny From Hell For Peace!

I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I will now support Obama now that Kucinich has dropped out. I've read Obama's books and listened to the debates - checked out the lists of what they'd do - and while Kucinich consistently represented principles of integrity and peace I've looked for in candidates since I protested the Viet Nam war in the 60's, he dropped out after having been battered by our news networks. Until he had to accept the dice were loaded, he didn't falter, double talk, or quibble, and reminded us that when you use nuclear threats, you threaten the world. A nuclear explosion ANYWHERE affects all of us EVERYWHERE. I intend to keep Obama apprised of anything I learn in that area.
About me - I am a full-time working artist. I left KCMO and my (now ex) husband June of 2006, quit a very good administrative assistant job in the corporate world, flipped a house in Boise, moved to Heyburn, Idaho in September, got my divorce final, and now I paint.
Find some of my paintings here in my pics, and all of them at http://www.yessy.com/ppgfhI love painting. I love writing. And I love reading to an audience who enjoys being read to. I love the poems of Gerard Manley Hopkins, Auden, Yeats and Robert Frost. I love my own poetry (else why write it?) http://heywoodlorraine.com/Poempage.htm
I paint - oil and acrylic on canvas - 20 hours a week or more. Not a novice, but hadn't painted seriously for years, and I'm loving it. My house is full of art, mine, my mother's and other folks. I'm here for the audience.
I'm allergic to smoke, to alcohol, and to cats.
The poster child for the triumph of hope over experience, I've been married before. Three times in the sixties. Briefly in the 80's. Once for seven years in the 90's. I don't count the ones in the sixties. The divorces don't bother me nearly as much as the marriages to the wrong people. It's taken me years to figure out why we married. Why we divorced was always more evident.

My Interests

I hope to begin working for peace. The past eight years I've been remodeling three houses - the first one took me seven years - I love to see changes result from my work. It's almost as good as painting or writing, which I also enjoy.
I love the Oregon and California coasts, mountains, hotsprings, or just driving across deserts or into mountains. I've visited Hawaii several times and enjoyed the water Very Much!
I love my my family, my friends, my dogs, my house and yard, and my tools - esp. my 12" DeWalt Chop Saw, my DeWalt cordless drill, and my new table saw.

I'd like to meet:

I respect anyone who puts their beliefs on the line and works for peace and freedom.
I like meeting people who are like the people I already know and like.
I enjoy tolerant easy-going folks who enjoy work AND play. They aren't profligate but they aren't selfish, either. They are happy jumping into a car or pickup for a trip to the mountains or the ocean and happy to spend the day working in the yard.
I like people who don't carry grudges and are not afraid of other people's ideas. They aren't creationists, anti-abstractionists, sexist, racist or homophobic. They are attracted to bright and independent folks who know their own mind, but don't care to own folks.
They love music, art, literature, ideas, conversations and GOOD jokes and are comfortable in a rowdy crowd (for example, my family), or completely alone. They love themselves for the child they were and the adult they are and are not looking for someone to make up for all the grief life has handed them.
People I like believe it's our responsibility to do what we can to protect the planet and the people and animals in it. They want to do what they can for less fortunate people - maybe a neighbor, maybe a stranger.
People I like don't call someone with an earnest opinion a fanatic. In fact, they don't label folks. And if I tell them something I don't like about them, they don't tell ME I've got an anger problem. Anger problems come from NOT telling people how you feel.

Music:

Blues and Rock n Roll - light jazz - folk songs - Janice Joplin, the Beatles, Sam Cooke, John Hartford, Rosalie Sorells - and many more -

Movies:

I have lots of favorite movies: Connager, Overboard, Jeremiah Johnson, Willow, Paint Your Wagon, Dances With Wolves, Sleepless in Seattle - Yes. I like dramatic westerns and chick flicks. Not an eclectic list - I watch movies for entertainment. For edification, I read.

Television:

I don't have cable, so only watch movies on the box.

Books:

I read and re-read the Basic Text of Narcotics Anonymous. It works, How and Why. The Step Working Guide, and Just for Today. Phillip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" trilogy, Jared Diamond's Collapse, the Third Chimpanzee, and Guns, Germs, and Steel are books I've read recently. Among my favorite books are "Eye of the Needle" for suspense and anything by Amy Tan. I read all the Harry Potter books before I sent them off to my grandson. I enjoy reading science and nature essays. And I love anything Joan Didion and read The Year of Magical Thinking last year. I'll read anything Izak Denisen (Out of Africa) has written.

Heroes:

"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams, speech at the Philadelphia State House, August 1, 1776. Trying to convince them to join the American Revolution.
