Cheeks McGee is a one man jam band from Quincy IL that is a self-taught, percussive, and rhythmic acoustic guitar player. Cheeks plays his trademark '81' Takamine mahogany acoustic guitar while looping tasty riffs and chord progressions with a loop station. Once the loop is set Cheeks adds percussive patterns by either hitting his guitar or making unique sounds with his mouth to personify the illusion of having a drummer and bass player. He then throws down some wicked solos with either his trusty sidekick...the trumpet or takes it to a different dimension by soloing on his acoustic guitar through his "talk box" to get some outrageous sounds! Cheeks McGee is a fun-loving one man jam band and singer/songwriter known for his songs about love, women, drinks, and sexual innuendos! McGee's on stage antics and humorous lyrics wins the hearts of the crowd which makes the fans love him more and more! Cheeks McGee has gained the respect of many bands around the area and is constantly sitting in with many bands on his trumpet.
HISTORY: Cheeks McGee started out playing trumpet in a jazz/funk fusion band when he was in HS with some great and talented musicians! This band was known as Blind Willie They took their hometown of Kahoka by storm playing almost every place in town! After a few years of playing with Blind Willie the band decided to switch to guitars to play more rock oriented music. Cheeks moved on to the bass guitar where he played for about a year with a band called Temperamental with some members from Blind Willie. Cheeks along with the drummer from Temperamental decided to break off and start a new project with another guitarist called HooHash. This project lasted about another year. This is when Cheeks started exploring his songwriter roots. A summer on the beaches of North Carolina inspired some amazing music that is a staple of his live shows now. When he returned to the Midwest, Southern BBQ Trip was born. SBT was a staple on the Culver-Stockton College campus where all three members attended. Their double live album, creatively titled "Live at Culver-Stockton" was a favorite in many a persons CD collection. This trio, featuring much of Cheek’s original music, played all over Iowa, Illinois, and Missouri and built an excellent fan base. But the toils of college got the best of this group and SBT was forced to play their last gig in front of the C-SC fans where it all started.
The past three years for Cheeks McGee have been an experiment of his solo career. He has now built his solo acoustic regimen into something that can stand alone by itself. Using his skills on various instruments, Cheeks has built a solo show that has opened the eyes and grabbed the attention of many bands, people, and venues in the area. This is where we are today. A high-energy, entertaining get out of your seat show that makes his fans want to come back for more. This past summer Cheeks took some time to travel and play shows around the US from North Carolina to Wyoming to expand the fan base and bring the music of Cheeks McGee to all….
