Cheeks & Friends Freedom Festival

About Me

Three years ago Cheeks decided to put together a festival on his farm he lived on to give independent bands and his friends from around the area a festival to play at that promoted peace as well as a good time! So with little cash to his name Cheeks went to work plotting out the festival and with help from his girlfriend they rounded up old boards, scrap metal, tarps, and anything they could find in an old shed outside their house to make signs and a backdrop for the first ever Cheeks & Friends Freedom Fest (which in its first year it was called "ThaWOOD-stock") Then through myspace Cheeks contacted bands he had met on myspace as well as opened up for to see if they would be interested in playing a free show at his first ever festival. To his surprise he had a few bands willing to travel and play. The first year was pretty rough and drew in around 100 people...but it wasnt about how many people were there, the stage, the sound, or what the signs looked like. It was about getting good people together to celebrate peace, music, and good times!!!

Last years Freedom Fest 2006 was AMAZING!! With the buzz of this festival from the first year as well as Cheeks McGee playing shows everywhere in Quincy got his name familiar in alot of peoples heads. Cheeks called upon a few other friends to help get the word out as well as helping put money into the festival. They pulled in a bigger stage as well as put up fence around the property, and tiki torches as well as borrowed bigger sound equipment, and talked a few bigger name bands that he was friends with to come out and play and even talked a few bands from Chicago to come down and play the festival! Cheeks had many of his friends help with the promotion that year and had flyers posted anywhere and everywhere. He decided to change the name this year to the "Cheeks & Friends Freedom Festival" because of all the support and help from his friends. This year they had 7 bands come and play and had over 300 people that attended which was easily 3 times more people there this year than the first year.
CFFF 2007 is looking to be even bigger and better with more people helping as well as bigger name bands!! It is set for August 11th and the gates are set to open around 1pm and music will start around 3pm!! We want to get more bands involved and playing music this year!
We are super excited for this years festival and cant wait to see you all on AUGUST 11th!!!!
