His EP, BLACK BOX , now in its third pressing has certainly been a key ingredient — along with an active desire to perform for people all over the globe — in building his career. Jann’s songs Black Box and It’s Not The Way have been licensed to film ( Warner Bros. Home DVD “Dead Broke,†starring Paul Sorvino, Jill Hennessy) and overseas markets (Prambors Hits 3 in Indonesia, SAAB 60th anniversary compilation CD in France).
Jann and his band have just finished recording a new album at Water Music in Hoboken, NJ with producer Stewart Lerman (Dar Williams, Loudon Wainwright III, “The Life Aquaticâ€, “The Aviatorâ€). Jann is anticipating a Fall 2007 release of the full album, with a single, Beautiful Dream/Hold Me Down now available on iTunes .
In 2005, he released a digital-only EP, LIVE AT THE BITTER END, NYC that included three originals and a cover of T-Bone Walker's "Stormy Monday Blues." A live video of "Walk Through The River" has received over 100.000 downloads in file-sharing networks online and been seen on “Swept Away TV†in 60 U.S. markets. Earlier releases are 1997's ENOUGH SAID and 1999's THE STRANGEST THING, which is currently available on iTunes .
Jann's band features upright/electric bassist Chris Marolf, drummer Patrick Carmichael, and keyboardist/accordionist Lars Potteiger. The group is active on the road, having played over 200 shows since the release of BLACK BOX EP throughout the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Mid-Western parts of the United States as well as Germany. Jann has also collaborated with dancer/choreographer and director Yo-el Cassell for an Off-Broadway and touring production of MOONLIGHT INTERIOR .
Born in Mannheim, Germany, Jann was raised in Nairobi, Kenya, Johannesburg, South Africa and Cleveland, Ohio. After finishing high school and civil service in Germany, Jann moved to the United States in 1996, and upon his arrival in NYC in 2000, performed in productions of The Who’s Tommy, national tours of Broadway's Jekyll & Hyde and with the Jesus Christ Superstar European tour.
