THE DEEPER SIDE OF DRUM AND BASS

About Me

I was born in South West UK and I've been deep into music since aslong as i can remember, i listen to alot of different styles and most types of House and the more mellower side of DnB such as Good Looking Records etc and as far as Dj's go i would have to say that Ltj Bukem was without a doubt my favourite Dj from about 1990 as i always did love the kind of tracks he would play. I grew up mainly listening to Soul and Jazz which progressed into listening to alot of other music in my teenage years, then around 1982 i was exposed to the Hip Hop culture and i was just tottally blown away by the Dj's that were spinning breaks and from then on i knew that i had to get myself a pair of turntables and soon after bought myself a pair of Technics 1200's. I started Dj'ing back in 1984 and before long i decided to call myself 'K.C.Dee' (Kool Cut Dee) at which time i was mainly into spinning Breakbeats and mixing Soul and the early Hip Hop, then in about 1986 i also started to buy Detroit and Chicago House and before long i started to play out at various house parties and community projects. By 1990 i managed to pick up deals with CBS and EMI Records with 3 other band members, not being that happy with the record deal i soon found my way out the contract. By this time i had already established myself as a Dj in my local town of Swindon playing a wide variety of House music and before long i started to Dj for the newly formed Ektos Rave Organisation for which i was their resident Dj for many years, i also ran my own night and was a resident Dj at The Brunnel Rooms Swindon and had a residency in Reading Dj'ing for MadUp and played at events for Basement Phil from The Record Basement and for numerous other organisers in Reading and also in London for Freedom and Fantastic Ibiza and many other pay raves and free parties around the South West UK. Over the years i've played out hundreds of times and I still Dj but only for the love of it as i have no interest in playing out anymore but i do post DnB mixes on various internet forums. In 2001 i bought myself a pc and before long i started trying to produce my own DnB tracks which is where i'm at today, i only make music for the love of it rather than having big plans about getting tracks released and at this point in time i'm not even happy enough with my music to even consider sending out demos but hopefully that will change in the future.. Right now for me its all about self satisfaction and enjoyment. These days i predominantly mix the more mellower atmospheric side of Drum and Bass rather than the noisy eratic DnB which unfortunately seems to control the DnB market right now :/ Over the years my favourite DnB producers have been Big Bud, Blu Mar Ten, Seba, Intense, Paradox, Intersperse, PFM, Tayla, J-Laze, Sonic Generation, Nookie, LTJ Bukem, Pariah, Equinox, Fanu, Peshay, Future Engineers, Artemis, Aural Imbalance, Tidal, JCB, my good friend Orange n Blue and all the other artists that have helped contribute to the more mellower side of Drum and Bass. I have added a bunch of DnB mixes to my blog section so please feel free to give them a listen.
