StandbY WERE a modern melodic rock band based in Glasgow, Scotland. Influenced by bands like Radiohead, Muse, Oceansize, The Cooper Temple Clause, Biffy Clyro and many more, the bands music is a blend of high energy riffs, textured soundscapes and soaring melodic sing-a-long rock anthems. The band have been gigging since August 2004 and have started to make a real impact on the now massive Glasgow Rock scene. The band are now looking to push on and start making a name for themselves nationally. After a few line up changes, and dropping a whole lot of the earlier songs that we deemed to be "not us" the StandbY you see and hear now was born. The band consisted of four very different people, each coming from different backgrounds, socially and musically. Fitzy, lead vocals and guitar is a well schooled music lover, he enjoys almost every genre that exists, from his beloved U2 right through to Jonny Cash and onwards to big band music and a bit of classical thrown in for good measure. An accomplished rhythm guitarist, Fitzy likes to concentrate on creating layers of textured and full sounding music. Vocally he draws influence from the likes of Bono, Eddie Vedder, Chris Cornell, all singers that impress people primarily with their vocal ability before their pretensions and presence finish the job off!! Bobby (now with Would Be Kings), lead guitar and vocals. Bobby is the primary songwriter of the band, a self taught guitarist with no real music tuition behind him. Bobby likes to write what he thinks sounds good and let the others worry about the little things like what key its in, and what the timing is! Bobbys influences come from primarily the early 90's hard rock scene, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Faith No More and Pearl Jam, but he also has a taste for the obscure, bands like Oceansize, Failure, Year of the Rabbit, Biffy Clyro, Cave in, Aerogramme, Sucioperro, Cooper Temple, And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead, this mixed with Radiohead and Muse make for some interesting riffs when he was writing StandbY tunes!!! MuK, bass and occasional backing vocals. MuK is a purist. A practical and theoretically sound musician, instruments include drums, bass, guitar, keys and saxaphone!! His tastes are very old school, a lover of all that is metal! and we mean real metal, Dragonforce, Helloween, Metallica etc, he still claims however that Crowded House remain his favourite band! His bass playing is the foundation of the StandbY sound, his clever use of FX and his astounding ability are often the center of attention at our live shows. Will (also now with Would Be Kings), drummer and general enigma. A loose cannon, an often explosive, hard hitting, mid 80's loving, roto-tom using, stick breaking weapon of a drummer! Lover of bands like The Who, The Police, U2, Franz Ferdinand and a recent convert to the likes of Biffy Clyro and Oceansize (thanks to Bobby). Will takes his drumming very seriously, he lives for the live shows. Will is also, allegedly the good looking one!
