Slipstream

About Me

Hmmm.... Where do I start,Slipstream is the current chapter in a band's life that stretches back as far as 10 long years. In 1994, Four young spotty teenagers with the balls to be different from the "in-crowd" decided that they wanted to play together in a band, jamming the tunes of their favourite bands at that time (the likes of Metallica, Iron Maiden, Pantera, and Megadeth). They did this, and the mighty Abeyance was formed. The line-up was: Dave Sweeney Vocals, Guitar J.P. Payne Guitar Andy Leaman Bass Niall Russell Drums. The band wrote some great tunes, and recording sessions & gigs followed. Unfortunately, Dave Sweeney got the "Yoko Ono Syndrome", and began favouring his woman at the time, rather than focussing on his commitment to the band. So, after many frustrating times, the band parted company with their punk-influenced singer And the Abeyance dream died on that day. 1995: Enter Derek Semple. The new singer was to prove a mainstay in the many years that followed, and Niall shifted from drums to guitar. Derek joined the guys (Andy, Niall & J.P.) when the Oasis craze had quite literally taken Britain by storm, and unfortunately the band, for a time, became an Oasis tribute band, playing gigs in their school (Castlemilk High School) to an audience of 300 pupils at a time. With this whole new singer/music scene, came the new name Callus. Callus had a drummer nightmare for quite some time (although they performed a one-off school gig with a girl called Lynn Molloy on drums, who carried the can superbly). 1996: For the next school gig, a new guy (Jason Sweeney) and a reformed Dave Sweeney (no relation) had returned to share drumming duties. The band rolled along quite merrily, until Derek?s wild antics and behaviour at that time became too much for core men Andy & J.P., who decided their time in the band was over, and left. Stickman was then formed. The line-up was:Derek Semple Vocals Niall Russell Guitar Dave Sweeney Bass Jason Sweeney drums. Stickman must have lasted 5 months, before one crazy drunken night in a rehearsal room saw the whole band split, and the whole thing died. 1997 was a very important year, as from the ashes of Stickman rose Moody. Moody was to be the next chapter in the saga, lasting for seven years, and was a very successful time for the guys. This also saw Niall return to drumming duties. The Moody line-up was: Derek Semple Vocals J.P. Payne Guitar Dave Sweeney Guitar Andy Leaman Bass Niall Russell Drums. Moody played gigs all over Glasgow & Scotland, and also took their music to England & Finland (where the band went down a storm). The band, on one occasion, travelled down to Blackpool with a crowd of thirty people in tow, and won through to a Battle Of The Bands semi-final in Liverpool. This line-up remained constant for seven years (barring a few minor alterations, and sacking & re-instatement!)until2004: Through time, Moody had slowly began to drift apart, and the guys knew something had to change. Previous mainstays Derek Semple and Dave Sweeney both departed, leaving Niall, Andy and J.P. to work on a new future. The guys pondered the possibility of soldiering on as a three-piece, but as they couldn't settle on who would play drums (Niall now returning to guitar), the search for a new drummer began Enter Dave Frame. Dave played drums for Glasgow band Vagrant for a number of years, gigging constantly in numerous venues throughout Glasgow, honing his percussive skills since the band's debut gig in November 1999. Things with Vagrant didn't go according to plan, and Dave would then move on to ply his trade in bands such as Gretchen, Sons Of Cain, and My Infernal Riot. Dave would enter the Slipstream saga via a chance encounter at Glasgow's Solid Rock Cafe. J.P. happened to bump into an old college friend, Mark Connelly, who was enjoying a few beers with his Syth band-mate Allen Bell. J.P. remarked that his band was searching for a drummer, and Allen immediately suggested Dave Frame. Allen played bass with Vagrant, and knew that Dave was actively seeking a new band, and was very eager to gig. Dave soon met with the guys, and immediately joined the band, after impressing the guys with some fine drumming. SLIPSTREAM was born. The band retained a few songs from the Moody era, but continue to work on new songs & ideas. The band hopes this will be the final line-up, and looked forward to exciting times ahead. But as fate would have it in 2005 the band decided to part company with long serving guitarist J.P. Payne.... now in 2006 the band is carrying on as a three piece writing new material and have entered the emergenza competition reaching the semi-finals. The band hope to do more gigs this year and finish of recording an album.Ooooooft! that was a long story hope you got the gist of it. Lol.
