To make a very long story short, Sanny Xenokottas started off as dj in 1979.
A couple of years later, his name was shortened down to just "Sanny X". Sanny X is the DJ, remixer, and producer best recognized for innovatively pioneering the art of remixing in the UK during the '80s. Born in Greece and raised in Sweden, Sanny began mixing at the age of 19 playing afro-funk, salsa, reggae & soul at Studio 8 in the heart of Goteborg. He further developed his mixing style at Club Heaven from '82-'84 incorporating synthesizers and drum machines in his set.
Through a mix contest that was organized by Radio Luxemburg, Sanny was discovered by Disco Mix Club founder, Tony Prince. In the spring of 1984, he was invited to perform in London at the first international DJ convention. That night he received a standing ovation from over 2000 DJ's at the Hippodrome for his mixing exhibition using a digital delay and was dubbed the DJ of tomorrow. Sanny is one of the first DJ/Remixers that helped develop the art of blending hit songs of one or more artists together seamlessly, commonly known today as a Mega-mix. His DMC Megamixes include legendary artists such as Elvis Presley, The Beatles, James Brown, Bob Marley & Prince.
In 1985, Sanny won the coveted DMC-Stanton DJ award for best remix, Colonel Abrams - Trapped. That year, he also won the British Disco & Club trade international magazine poll award: mixing DJ of 1985. Sanny has produced remixes for Tina Charles' I Love To Love, Anita Ward's Ring My Bell, Billy Idol's You Don't Need A Gun, Prince's 1999, Madonna's Into the Groove Remix (Sept. '85) and many more. Incidentally, the sample hook melody from the Into The Groove remix was used by Madonna to open her Who's That Girl Tour. In 1987 Tina Charles - I Love To Love (Sanny X RMX) topped the charts all over Europe. During 1985-89, Sanny was featured as resident DJ at London's World Famous Hippodrome at well as famous night spots all over Europe. During the summer of 1987 in Benidorm on the east coast of Spain he promoted the Balearic style and acid house. He was awarded the REMIXEUR N'3 MONDIAL from DMC FRANCE in 1991.
In 1992 Sanny left England and temporarily retired to the popular Greek Isle of Rhodes. He opened his own nightclub (Club Swing 1993-2004) and performed as guest DJ. During that time he produced music for famous Greek artists. Currently, Sanny has been working in the studio with legendary Euro disco diva Tina Charles on her comeback album. His US debut single is Higher, out now.
