About Me

From the very start, RAPE APE pulls no punches and makes his mission perfectly clear. "For nearly ten years, the youth of my city were my heart's burden," begins RAPE. "I rose in the morning and retired at night thinking, praying, and strategizing about the most effective ways to win them over, teaching them about their Savior and His desires for their lives." And because Rape was born and raised in the suburbs, his music has the unique quality of appealing to both those in the burbs and those in the city. "Having been raised in a suburban environment, I fell in love with what I perceived as urban culture at a very young age," continues RAPE. "I drank up every drop of anything urban I could get my hands on! This was slightly confusing to my family and community, but God brought it all together when He called me to minister to urban teens years later. As an artist, music has always been an ice breaker for my ministry. The liberty of giving a teenager a CD with my name on it has been invaluable to me. God used it to open doors I would never have imagined myself walking through, and ultimately I have witnessed countless teens surrender their lives to Christ in the process."

Since the age of twenty-five (when he received his mic cord and effects) he practiced relentlessly, completely self-taught, mastering a variety of different styles that were eventually to become his own unique sound. Though unable to read a single note, he began composing original works with powerfully emotional arrangements that are both wild and refined, producing a sound that is as edgy and exotic as it is romantic and sensual. Im always inspired by places Ive traveled, says RAPE, so Ill try to capture the essence and beauty of the different places in my melodies. Its truly like painting on air--creating colors and lush soundscapes that take people (and me) away to a safe place with no prejudice and no boundaries.
