"Can You Hear It Ring?" CD review (and sales) by GUITAR NINE RECORDS CD REVIEW CLICK HERE
As a guitarist & bassist, I’ve been playing for over 35 years. Based out of Nashville, TN I’m originally from northern Virginia. I moved to Nashville in the late 90s, with the goal of wanting to do music full time. These days all is good in that department. I currently perform in several different groups covering a wide range of styles. Quite regularly you can find me performing on the road or on the GRAND OLE OPRY with country music legend EDDY RAVEN, and locally with the LOT 18 classic rock cover band. During the festival season I regularly cover bass duties with my lovely wife in her Bluegrass group, Karen Pendley & Heartstrings. During the day my dad and I share duties with our publishing company, WYNWOOD MUSIC,.INC. and our latest achievement was 2 cuts in the movie “O Brother Where Art Thou?â€. I also teach guitar & bass in the Nashville area, and do plenty of recording session work either as engineer, producer, or performer.
I’ve always intently been into the electronic side of electric guitar, after building my first amplifier from a kit and taking apart (and destroying) way too many tape recorders! I’m always searching for “one more tweak†that can improve my tone and almost always do my own repairs and mods. A lover of vintage gear, these days my main live rig has come full circle back to the same exact model guitar amp I played back in High School.
My first solo CD release “Can You Hear It Ring?†is due out the 2nd week of March, 2007. An all instrumental rock/blues/country recording featuring the awesome drumming of Erin Conley, and myself on guitar and bass. The roots of this recording goes way back to when I was featured on a GUITAR PLAYER magazine Soundpage for the instrumental “Sundownâ€. That song was simply a studio out take, complete with the beginning of the song abruptly cut since that is when the record button happened to be pressed during the session. The magazine wrote “a profoundly musical rocker with a too-good-to-be true-tone.†Several years later the other recordings on the CD took shape, and finally I can say it has all come together in a package I’m fully proud of. I plan to make my new CD available through CD Baby, Guitar 9 Records, and I will also be listing it regularly on EBAY, please see the link below.
I should also mention the CD is dedicated to my friend, the late Ken Fischer of Trainwreck guitar amplifier fame. Over the years Ken helped me immensely with my guitar tone, and knowledge of the inner workings of guitar amps. I owe him a lot for my tone. Ken’s amps these days have practically reached Holy Grail status, though less than a handful of commercial recordings exist that feature his famous and rare amps. That said my CD features my Trainwreck amp on all the tunes except for one acoustic track, all recorded the way Ken probably would have liked with NO guitar pedals inline period.
These days my other interests include spending time with my lovely wife, riding and racing vintage motocross bikes, flying RC airplanes, and I’m currently working on getting my private pilots license.
I look forward to joining in on all the fun with the “My space†phenomenon and making many new friends here. Thanks!, GK
The CD has been released as of March 5, 2007!
