About Me

My name is Tony Yardley. I am 55, married to Barbara Jean Yardley. I have two children, Sean and Lacie. I have been a performing musician for about forty years (to tell you the truth, I've lost count). Although I play several instruments, I consider myself primarily a guitar player and a songwriter. I'm another one of those countless old hippy guitar players who saw the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show and was hooked for life. Anyway, I have been a guitar teacher for about 15 years now. I have my own home studio and have just completed my first solo instrumental CD, Surface Tension. I have samples on my page. Give them a listen, I hope you like them. I'll take all the encouragement I can get as I plan to keep cranking these things out as long as I am able.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: forthcoming
Band Members: As a solo artist, I don't have a band but I have many friends who are fabulous musicians who have made marvelous contributions to Surface Tension.Bass: Donnie Geier Lloyd Andrews Alan Wilson Rick GoodwinSaxes: Danny Thomas T. David CunninghamHarmonica: Rick Goodwin D.R. Morris Percussion: Randy Woodand you can blame the rest on me.
Influences: My influences are varied and many. I love blues, R&B, acoustic music, funk and jazz. I am a fanatic Beatle fan. Being a baby boomer, there's Clapton, Beck, Page and Hendrix. Like I said, old hippy. I also consider Stephen Stills one of the main reasons for my wanting to be a player/songwriter. In his heyday, he was one of the best (and still is). I consider James Taylor a genius both musically and lyrically. Little Feat was and is one of the best bands ever. They got me through the disco era, God bless 'em. I love Motown and old R&B but I consider rap to be generally crude and pretty much mindless. Steely Dan is a very big influence. Larry Carlton, Robben Ford, Leo Kottke, Mac McAnally, SpyroGyra, the list goes on and on...
Sounds Like: Summa dis, summa dat. I don't know. You listen to my stuff and tell me. I find labels limiting.
