”Only the tall animals get the sweetest fruits”The label „Girafe“ stands for the search of music with a higher standard. Various musical musical styles, varying from acoustic or electronic, popular or experimental, club or listening can be found on the release schedule of this young label from Berlin/Hannover Germany.In times, where more and more small labels were founded to develop young & fresh artists and major companies anxiously focus on their international acts, independence is just a logical move for most people in the music scene.Christoph Isermann’s idea to establish his own label preceded a long career as a composer, musician, producer and discoverer of new talents, and with this succes he established the basis for the next step to higher independence.Christoph Iserman, producer, bass and piano player moved 1994 to London and worked in the local soul and acid jazz scene with artists like Maysa Leak (Incognito) or The Brand New Heavies. With Yak Bondys band "Zero G" he had an entry in the UK top100 charts with the single „Peter & the Wolf“ which also reached „gold“-status. His close friendship to Yak Bondy lasts until today, and due to this, there always result cooperations with the london scene. For example with the young artist Lyla Foy, or the old friends Ansel Dodd and Danny Heckman from the Electric Souljazz project "Gamut of Crime" album „Piracy Vol. 1“. Since 1996, Isermann works as arranger and keyboard and bass player for Randy Crawford, Mousse T., Mary J. Blige, Cunnie Williams, Nuyorican Soul and the German hip hop/jazz project Jazzkantine, and he also wrote classical music for symphony orchestras and film soundtracks. Further on he produced the debut album for the "Supreme Chord Jesters" (jazzpoetry, soul, nujazz).Beyond his jazz and soul background, he always was fascinated by electronic music and bossa nova and in 2001 he started the breakbeat/jazz collektive "Brown, Smith & Grey". With this project he had several releases on 12“ vinyl that regulary went in the German club charts (dcc) and were released on compilations like Brazilectro, Hotel Costes, Destination Out, Nova Soul, Asia Lounge or Afrotronic. Some of these tracks were recorded with brazilian singer Janice Andrade and can be found on more than 70 compilations, Brazilution, Bar Lounge Classics, Erotic Lounge, Hotel Costes, Latinova, Bossa Moca... in Japan, France, Spain, Germany and in the U.S. which sold more than one million units. Janice Andrade is also one of the first signings on Girafe. Her debut album is planned to be released in spring 2008.The first act which will be released on Girafe, is the debut of female singer Rye from Berlin, who recorded together with Lothar Müller a fantastic folk album which will released in september 2007. The abum is characterized by it’s very relaxed and natural sound, but mainly by the sensational and surpassing songwriting of both artists.Last but not least it’s Isermanns own productions, Lyla Foy, Jodet, BJ Philipp and the projects Calcutta Offroad and Concorde à L’Orange that widen the musical spectrum of Girafe and their artists. The sound of the label varies from the „adult“ sounds of folk, singer/songwriter, bossa nova, soul and jazz on one hand and the rather young sound of electronic, club, experimental and pop on the other handAside from albums and 12“es there are in particular compilations on the release schedule, that focus on brazilian music, indie pop, nusoul and filmscores.With Arndt Kielstropp, DJ and friend from Berlin with whom he started the project Concorde à L’Orange, Girafe has a consultant and head of the vinyl department, who has lot’s of experience in the daily business.
