There's a woman that you ought to know, singin' soft and low, she's a joy to know...

About Me

Fairly typically untypical over-age original era punk fan (and sometime bass player). I used to be in a few bands back in the original punk era - I.U.D. (all-female techno-punk partially South Bay, partially OC); PEER GROUP (Craig Lee described us as "Diagonal Post-punk", I think) - part of the San Pedro scene, along with Saccharine Trust, The Minutemen, Invisible Chains, etc), and a couple of one-off bands where I played behind future luminaries Michael Quercio and Mike Watt. Been married for 23 years and am the mother of two gorgeous girls, and work a very thankless job but they pay me to be there, so...Music is the very breath of life to me. It's been my best friend for as long as I can remember. It's been there for me no matter what was going on in my life and has sometimes saved my sanity when there was nothing left to give me hope. For that reason alone I remain eternally loyal to it and will do whatever I can to promote and help GOOD music thrive, even if it's not the most popular with anyone else. I spend as much of my day as I can listening to some of the best music in the world, most of which is made by many of my friends. I'm exceptionally lucky to have many talented pals in my life, and I love to support them whenever I can. I dig a wide variety of sounds, but have always had a huge soft spot for 60's music as that's what I grew up with. From Mersey beat to grungy garage, I love it all!As such, I love going to hear live music whenever possible - and taking my friends with me, because sharing the music just makes things better all around.Besides that, I dig cool scenes, making interesting jewelry, the paranormal (I've had several ghostly encounters, and even seen a UFO or two. Or four...) In my spare time (HA!) I like creating Day of the Dead art (I love painting skulls) and reading a wide variety of books and magazines, and breathing in and out ocassionally. Some people might think I'm "off-beat", "inscrutable", or even "inappropriate". Others think I'm cool. Still others think I need more sleep. I tend to agree with them, and should probably take vitamins too. Maybe someday when I have more time.Currently about to start working on a collaboration for a book about the history of San Pedro punk rock. If you were in the San Pedro punk scene during the late 70's through early 80's please shoot me a message here! We are trying to collect up as many interviews, pictures, flyers, and memorabilia as we can to include in the book, so if you have anything you want to share, please let us know!

My Interests

MUSIC, music (did I mention music?), and more music.Day of the Dead crafts (there's nothing better after spending a day among the living than to relax among the bright and cheerful dead). The paranormal (but you probably guessed that one, right?)Jewelry-making. Despite all the slivers of silver getting stuck in my fingers and cats running away with the beading wire trailing tiny little beads all over the place, it's one of my favorite things to do in my rare spare time.Reading, although I really have to steal time to do that these days. I have a pile of unread books next to the pile of unwatched.......Movies. Since I don't get out to watch them in the theaters when they come out I tend to buy them after they are out on DVD. I am woefully behind in watching those too. Sometimes, two hours is too much of a time commitment...Cooking. Those who know will tell you if I am any good or not.Oh wait! Did I forget to mention MUSIC?

I'd like to meet:

Interesting people who are into MUSIC - live/love/breathe music! Friendly, quirky - and most importantly - FUNNY people with a highly developed sense of humor. You'll need it around me.Also, those with a mind open to ideas bigger than what's easiest or right in front of them are quite welcome here. You'll need to have that too. ;-)Please don't try and add me if you are just looking to add to your "collection" of women. I'll just snicker at your request and delete you. If I don't know anything about you and you want to be a friend, please do send a message first and tell me a bit about yourself. I do like meeting and making new friends, but at least give me a reference point that we can progress from. :-)Don't worry - I'm not mean, I don't bite, I'm not snobby, but like to have people on here I would really like to be around in "real" life - and would have the greatest party in the world with all of them! So bring your records and your guitar and come set a spell. I'll make the tamales!

The more things change, the more they stay insane

So on Saturday night I was hanging out with some friends at my brother's house, while my brother and husband's band rehearsed.  This has become an almost weekly ritual, and gives me a chance to h...

Polishing up the old Wayback Machine (or, has it really been 25 years?!)

Wow.  Facts that are hard for me to fathom:  1) I am going to be seeing The Plugz play live tomorrow, and 2) That it's been 25 years since I last saw this line-up of The P...

I swore I wouldn’t do this again, but this was too good to pass up

From time to time many females on My Space are plagued with unsolicited and usually unwelcome come-ons by vague would-be Lotharios seeking casual fun or at the very least, to pad their "friends" ...

An odd, fleeting memory...

This evening I was watching "Rock and Roll High School", and while watching Mary Woronov reminisce during the special features, I reminisced to my husband about an evening many moons ago at Mary's apa...

It Was 30 Years Ago Today...I Met George Harrison

It dawned on me today that it had been 30 years since I met George Harrison, quite by chance, when I was "just 17". Yes, I had just turned 17 a couple weeks earlier, and had for the previous several ...

The Day I Beat Ryan Seacrest

For the past few weeks I've been seeing Ryan Seacrest everywhere: he's on the cover of TV Guide, he's on that huge billboard on the Harbor Freeway south as I come back home from work, why - he's e...
