Born a long time ago in Scotland, I soon developed a keen sense for the bass line, even as far back as Stevie Wonder's Boogie on Reggae Woman, and the other classics, like Parliament and George Clinton - he WAS Parliament at the end of the day...and that was when I started collecting vinyl! I was very stupid and sold a rather large soul n funk collection, inadvertantly, to someone who couldn't give a stuff about the music, for some cash to buy a bass guitar...which never happened either (ah childhood!), but learned one very valuable lesson - DON'T SELL YA TUNES - EVER!!! Can't emphasise that enough people...you'll only regret it! Lots of water under the bridge, punk, new romantics, all came and went and then the club scene started in earnest...I was very lucky to be in Ibiza in ‘87, just as the summer of love was starting and I was hooked! Beautiful people in beautiful surroundings, Klub Koo...Pacha…Amnesia…wow!!! I cried on the plane back home to England...House music crossed the Atlantic and the scene was born! Marshall Jefferson, JBs, Joe Smooth, Masters at Work, Jamie Principal, Frankie Knuckles...House music all nite looooong!!! And we did... Personal circumstances changed and I found myself literally thrust into the midst of London's nite life - based around the Camden Palace on a Friday night. I have since met many a person/DJ that used to frequent that place at the same time – even my very own Tamster… and it ran for years...! Of course there were many other places on the go like WAG Club, Cafe de Paris, Limelight, Hippodrome, One Nation, RAW...the list goes on I know... It was around this time I became aware of the London Pirate radio scene...LWR, Kiss (yes them), TKO, Station FM, and they all used to play a whole mixture of 'urban' music and definitely nothing like any of the mainstream stations EVER played. Hearing young guys and girls present shows in a refreshing format appealed to me, and again, I was hooked. Bought a pair of cheap decks and taught myself to mix n use a mic, but never had the guts to ask for a slot on the radio stations! My daughter came along and I sold my play out decks as I knew I wouldn't be using them again...a wise move that was too...and I spent the next 6 years bringing up my child...! I was approached by the pirates Magic FM to do a show, but it never materialised, but mean while my good friend Helena gave a demo tape over to a well known entrepreneur in the area who ran Chicago FM (90.6) – Badger B…He liked the tape, watched me play at a house party n asked if I wanted a show...the Funki Fi phenomenon was born! I was lucky and bagged Tuesdays 6-8pm and it upset quite a few established names cos I was an unknown and I did that slot for more years than I can remember and later would jump in on Stepper, Jerry B and BlackCat's show, 3 the Hard Way, on a Saturday afternoon...It was a station that was well respected throughout London and a great leg up for my career. We girl DJs had good gigging in Beluga's, Powerhaus, Pure Silk throughout the summer of 97 and put Girlpower (cheers Touch) firmly on the map. I later added an early Sunday morning old skool hip hop n r'n'b show (Undercover Lovers) to my schedule - just to let London hear my record collection...in time I covered nearly every slot that was available...and saw Chicago FM grown into Mission FM and then Y2K - where they got a UKG award for the best garage station...They were a great part of my life and I do miss them...Ultimately, I was with them for 5 years and met loadsa people - many who have gone on to bigger things...! However, due to my job, I had to quit 90.6 and was later lucky to be introduced to UK Flow early last year by Wayne Funky Antony, who through personal circumstances couldn't do his show one evening and I was thrust in at the deep end - OMG live, webcammed radio where I knew no-one or the system aaaarrrgh!!! But there I was - smashing it…n my daughter manning the shoutbox! I ended up doing 4-6pm, playing funki house n old skool garage and when Wayne moved on to pastures new I brought DJ Tamster in for a guest show and he took over Wayne’s slot at 6-8pm…We now do 4 hours of madness n mayhem every Friday as a b2b team playing the best in funky house and chunki trance, singin like loons over the choons and getting the shoutbox well hyper and interactive…!!! The show is doing great, and has a good following in the shoutbox and on myspace…we have done a couple of playouts as a couple and are looking for more. We have a PA by the name of Foxxy, who is a radio DJ ..RADIO.NET. She takes our bookings and is arranging to get us out there in Europe.
