Dave Harding is a Writer, Producer and Director with over 30 years experience in film, video, and music production. He currently lives in beautiful Victoria with his wife and four children. Dave began his career in entertainment in the Bay Area of San Francisco, California at the young age of 14. His father, Vern Harding, worked for over 20 years as a top engineer with the Ampex Corporation; a company credited with the discovery of several important patents including VHS, CD ROM, Laser Disk, and Magnetic tape. Ampex produced many products used in both entertainment & military applications including multi-track digital & analog recording machines, digital satellite tracking devices, and Beta Broadcast Video, to name only a few. Dave grew up around some of the first, and arguably the best, sound and video recording instruments available. Dave is an avid guitarist and performer who evolved out of the garage band era. His first group called: "The Legends", was formed in Newark, California in 1965. In the Bay Area, he rubbed shoulders with many 60's bands, and played in Battle of the bands gigs with groups like: "The Seeds","Just Six",and the "Styx". Growing up in the U.S.A. during the sixties and the Vietnam war proved to be a difficult times for this Rock n' Roller Canadian and his parents, so after the famed Altamont Rock Festival incident, he decided to join his family and finally returned to his Canadian roots in North Vancouver, British Columbia. West Vancouver boomers will remember his guitar influence in "The Webb", a spirited top-40 band based in the British Properties. Also another first: "Overground Music", a 4,000 sq. ft. rehearsal studio on Pemberton Avenue where Rocket Norton and other club bands put together their shows. During the spirited seventies decade, Dave gigged in hotels, A & B room lounges on Hornby Street, in Gastown, and night clubs across the Province in a variety of R & B & show bands as lead guitar, vocalist & arranger. His restless spirit eventually took him on a walkabout of Africa & Europe in 1971, where he took his constant companion a Fender Telecaster nicknamed: "Bandit" on tour with a West African band for 6 months. Billed as "The Soulful String from Canada", he landed a record deal, released a 45 and then returned to London, England, where his African bandmates "Pagadasia" were eventually thrown out of the country for lack of valid working visas. His performance career culminated in a contract with Motown Records, and a record deal with a funky club band called: "The Smokin'Pocket", with recordings at Little Mountain recording studios in Vancouver, under the production of Toxey French of "Flash Cadillac" fame. Dave refused to sign the five year contract with Motown, and his restless spirit took him again back to the United States, where a bandmate Stu Davis, a tenor sax player formally of "Tower of Power", was enrolled in the jazz department at the University of Western Washington. Here he graduated with a degree in Business Administration.

We consider ourselves morally, or culturally, or intellectually unique. But if we were to find a signal from another star system, another thinking being, we would know that none of that is true. A connection with another intelligence would be the first bridging across four billion years of independent life in evolution...It will be without doubt the greatest discovery in the history of humankind." Paul HorowitzHey, who keeps making these crop circles anyway? Are you into conspiracy theories? Have you heard of any new ones lately? Music:
My favorite musical influences began with British Invasion rock bands like The Animals, Rolling Stones,The Yardbirds and ended up with Funk, R&B, Salsa, Jazz and African music. Some of my favorite artists are: James Brown, Steely Dan, Miles Davis, Peter Gabriel, Angelique Kidjo and Fella Ransom Kuti.I got turned on to African music as a kid when I toured there for 6 months in a 15-piece band. I love all sorts of music, but I prefer music that makes you think or move. Lately, I've been helping my daughter: Felicia with her music career, (see her in my slideshow next column "about me")
Movies:
UFO Sighting Victoria, Canada
My son filmed these two firey orbs in the Western sky behide our home before Christmas '06. One disappears, and then reappears again after several moments. The light was very intense, and lit up the trees around our home, which is on Mount Tolmie, overlooking the city.

I love Lots of Films! Too many to list here for sure...I'm really into film. Especially Indies and foreign films. I go to film festivals when ever I can to expand my filmmaking palette.
Television:
The Royal Doulton Story - starring Patrick Macnee of "The Avengers" fame. Dave Harding - executive producer. A documentary shot in England & Hollywood of the fine china people.
Pandemonium: A Music Video/Operetta
A scene from Pandemonium, a 10 minute music video/operetta I produced for film festival release. The setting is in Satan's castle,(Adapted from John Milton's Paradise Lost). Ghouls, Zombie Queens and fallen angels dance to Mozart's deadly tune. (Watch out for the surprize ending!)
Nothing on television inspires me very much, and definately not FOX NEWS! I normally watch music specials, documentaries, and movies.( WHEN I'M NOT PLAYING MY GUITAR!)
Books:
I used to read books, but now I mostly read the paper & surf online for newsbites, videos, music and cool stuff. There is a doorway that has opened just a crack on the internet just now, and you can communicate with other intelligent beings on the other side out there....
This is a short video of me at Jazzfest on stage with Brian Nova performing: "Slow Taxi Ride" at Hugos Pub.
Leading cosmologist Martin Rees discusses the question: "Why are we here"? for a BBC documentary. Watch this!!
Heroes:
The Cisco Kid made his debut on the radio airwaves in 1943, going on to become one of the longest lasting television westerns of all time. The series made it to the small screen by 1950 and was aired until 1955. The show revolved around history's notorious Cisco Kid depicted on the series as being misunderstood by lawmen who believed The Kid and his cohort to be criminals. The Cisco Kid starred Duncan Renaldo as Cisco Kid and Leo Carrilo as his good-natured sidekick Pancho. While touring in the Smokin' Pocket band, I took on the role of Cisco Kid, because of my Fu Manchu and because I was from San Francisco. Other Heros of mine are People like DaVinci, Edison, Einstein, Tesla and all mad scientists, musicians & filmmakers. Also anyone who can explain what really causes Crop Circles!
