About Me
In 1948 on the south side of Chicago at Wendell Phillips High School, God gave one essential command to a 15 year old boy named Richard Daniel Henton. To him God spoke one word, "Preach!" Having a deep love for God and great faith in His command -- he obeyed. The early years of his preaching ministry were characterized by ardent prayer, fasting, intensive Bible study, and a willingness to capitalize on any opportunity to preach. Even though many congregations where he preached were small, the size of the church was as unimportant to him then as it is now.Richard was an avid Bible scholar, for he felt that the more he knew and understood God's word, the more he could say concerning Christ. Additionally, he felt that his biblical knowledge would stand him in good stead whenever the storms of life raged in the realm of his own experience. He thus became a dynamic young evangelist whose "life giving" testimony and spiritual gifts won him notable success in the United States from coast to coast. In time, the voice of providence spoke again to Evangelist R.D. Henton, this time commanding him to found a church. Heeding God's call, he preceded to found in 1964, an interdenominational church he called The Monument of Faith Deliverance Center. Its location was 6848 South Racine Avenue. Numerous persons from Chicago and suburban areas came to this center to hear the word of God as taught by this incomparable evangelist. So numerous and vast became the membership that his ministry was forced to procure larger and more adequate quarters. In 1972, his church purchased the South Side Congregational Synagogue at 7359 South Chappel and renamed it the Monument Of Faith Evangelistic Church. In 1997, the Monument Of Faith Evangelistic Church purchased 13.5 acres of land at 2750 West Columbus Ave in Chicago. The church sanctuary has a seating capacity of over 2,000. This facility also has a chapel with a seating capacity over 500, a dining room inclusive of a V.I.P. Room with a combined seating capacity of over 500. Adjacent to the sanctuary are the bookstore, educational and administrative facilities.
He has been in the ministry sixty (60) years and has been a pastor for forty-four (44) years, with an approximate membership of 4,000. Dr. Henton is also the founder of the R.D. Henton Breakthrough Ministries and is the Executive Producer of the Breakthrough telecast, which has aired each Sunday morning for 25 years on TLN (Total Living Network) and the Word Network.
