Bishop Rory R. Marshall was born September 2, 1959 in Chicago, IL. He grew up on the West and South sides of Chicago. He accepted the Lord and was baptized at the early age of 10. Three years after his conversion experience, at the age of 13, he started preaching the Gospel. At the age of 15, he was evangelizing on the streets and in the schools. He also began teaching Sunday School and children’s church during this time.Bishop Marshall is a graduate of Corliss High School. There, he was voted most popular, most likely to succeed and most talented. In addition, he was the class president and editor-in-chief of the school newspaper. Many of his teachers still reflect on his extraordinary preaching talents and abilities while in high school. He was well loved and often returns to address graduating seniors.Reverend Marshall was ordained at the early age of 17 by Pastor Richard D. Henton, who is now the Honorable Apostle Richard D. Henton, of the renowned Monument of Faith Evangelical Church. He was also ordained at the age of 19 by the late Reverend W. L. Patterson of the True Light Baptist Church in Grand Rapids, MI.In 1977, Bishop Marshall moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan to attend Calvin College. He graduated in 1982 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology. While attending Calvin College, he met the love of his life, Jacqueline D. Burch. They were married in September, 1979. In May of 1989, Bishop Marshall received his Masters of Religious Education from Western Theological Seminary in Holland, MI.During his early college years, Bishop Marshall worked at Eastern Avenue Christian Reformed Church as Parish Evangelist. Here, he founded the Nehemiah Teen Club, where he mentored young boys ages 10 to 16. For ten years, he and Jacqueline fostered over 43 young juvenile boys who were wayward, misguided, neglected, and needing to be loved and cared for. During this time, he became the chaplain of Kent County Juvenile Court.In 1983, Bishop Marshall was called to pastor Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Grand Rapids. For over then years he and his wife served there, until the Lord extended his work to two locations. For several years he traveled extensively to meet the needs of the people in Grand Rapids and Chicago. In 1996, he and his family relocated to Chicago, IL. The following year Bishop Marshall founded Nehemiah Urban Church Ministries, which is a thriving ministry on the cutting edge.After returning to Chicago, Bishop Marshall accepted special teaching assignments at Nicholson and Bouche’ Elementary Schools, where he mentored and taught special high-risk classes. Many of these children have grown spiritually and academically because of his dedicated teaching and love for them. Although he has since retired from his teaching positions, he still maintains a close relationship with many of the young men, and continues to be a strong spiritual influence on their lives.In 2005, Reverend Marshall received the distinct honor of being elevated to the office of Bishop through two venues. In January of 2005, he was consecrated as a bishop by the Honorable Apostle Richard D. Henton, founder and director of the Monument International Church Assemblies. In June of 2005, he was again consecrated as a Bishop by His Grace Bishop Larry D. Trotter, Presiding Prelate of the United Covenant Churches of Christ. Bishop Marshall currently serves as U.C.C.C.’s Men’s Pastor.Bishop Marshall is committed to discipling and equipping the men and women of God. He presently is working diligently with ministry development and is building a strong foundation for the Nehemiah Urban Church Ministries in Chicago.Bishop Marshall has actively been involved in: Urban Ministries, Black World and Peace Conference, Basic Youth Conflicts, Moody Bible Institute’s Pastors’ Conference, Prison Fellowship Instructor Training, Civil Rights Leadership (PUSH), Foster Parent Training, State of Michigan Inter-denominational Ministerial Alliance, Say No To Drugs Campaign, motivational speaker and mentor for Walbridge Alternative School, Public Schools Advisory and Curriculum Strategic Planning, Young Life Ministry, Hope Network, Project Rehab Board of Directors, National Presidential Prayer Breakfast, and the Catholic Social Services Board of Directors. He has been the recipient of the Donald R. Black Award for Community Service, and the Dr. Mildred C. Harris Honorary Award. In addition, Bishop Marshall was selected as one of Grand Rapids Magazine’s Top Ten Successful Men.Bishop Marshall is the proud father of four beautiful children, and is fondly known as “Dad†by many throughout the country.
