Simona Bencini, front woman trascinante e voce soul storica della band più funky d’Italia, i Dirotta su Cuba, con la quale registra ben 5 album di cui uno di platino e scala le classifiche con canzoni come “Gelosia”, “Dove sei”, “Liberi di- liberi da”, “E’andata così”, brano che vanta la collaborazione anche del celebre armonicista Toots Thielmans nel Sanremo ’97, lascia il gruppo nel 2003, dopo oltre 10 anni di attività e centinaia di concerti, per intraprendere una sua carriera solista.
Nell’Aprile 2005 esce infatti il suo primo album “SORGENTE” (Atlantic Warner), un soul elegante che la vede protagonista anche come autrice di testi e musiche. “Sorgente” vanta collaborazioni importanti: l’amica Irene Grandi, , Alex Cremonesi dei La Crus, Pacifico, che scrive per lei la delicatissima ballad “Questa voce”, suo primo singolo, accompagnata al piano da uno dei più importanti jazzisti europei, Stefano Bollani, con il quale già aveva condiviso l’esperienza dell’album “Abbassa la tua radio”, una omaggio a famosi brani italiani degli anni 20-30 riletti in chiave jazz, esperienza che li ha portati a partecipare insieme anche al Premio Tenco e a Umbria Jazz Winter nel 2001. Nel 2006 “Sorgente” viene ripubblicato con l’inserimento del brano “Tempesta”, brano scritto con Elisa, che Simona porterà sul palco del 56° Festival di Sanremo. Molto apprezzata la versione cantata in duetto con la voce nera e profonda di Sarah Jane Morris. Oltre a quelle già sopracitate, molte altre e diverse sono le collaborazioni di Simona con altri artisti collezionate in questi ultimi anni, proprio a sottolineare la sua versatilità e trasversalità: duetta con Ron in “Ma quando dici amore”, canta con Massimo Ranieri nel disco che festeggia i suoi primi 40 anni di carriera, partecipando con lui alla trasmissione televisiva su Rai 1 “Tutte donne tranne me” nel gennaio 2007, duetta con Renato Zero nel suo ultimo tour invernale, con Claudio Baglioni nella seconda edizione di Oscia’ ed interpreta il brano principale della colonna sonora del film “Tartarughe sul dorso” scritta da Banda Osiris.
Nell’Aprile dello stesso anno esce nelle librerie un audio-libro di fiabe dal titolo “Felici e Cantanti” edito dalla Fabbri Editori contenente 21 fiabe cantate ed interpretate da molti artisti, tra cui Simona che duetta con Pacifico in “Barbablues”; il mese successivo, a Maggio, un altro importante featuring di Simona. Esce infatti in edicola allegato all’ Espresso il cd del “Parco della Musica Jazz Orchestra” diretta da Fabrizio Giammarco, dove Simona reinterpreta con spiccata personalità due standard italiani a suo tempo cantati dalla grande Mina. Infine il 01 Giugno nelle radio esce il nuovo singolo di Simona “Presto arriverò da te” frutto della collaborazione col nuovo produttore Max Calò, un soul fresco e solare che anticipa l’album in uscita il prossimo inverno.

For over ten years, from 1992 to 2002, the singer from Florence has been the front woman for "Dirotta su Cuba", band that has taken funky to the highest levels climbing italian charts with songs such as "Gelosia", "Dove sei", "Liberi di- liberi da", "E’ andata così", this song recorded at Sanremo 97 with the collaboration of the famous armonicist Toots Thielmans. They have recorded 5 album, with one turning platinum. In 2003 she left the band in order to follow a solo career, leaving over her shoulder hundreds of concerts and great satisfactions. In 2005 the singer published the "Sorgente" album (Atlantic Warner), elegant and refined debut with a soul attitude that sees Simona as author of lyrics and music. "Sorgente" features important collaborations: Irene Grandi with whom Simona had her first experience in 1993 with "Matte in transferta", Alex Cremonesi from La Crus, Pacifico, fine author that wrote for Simona her debut single, a sweet ballad called "Questa Voce", accompanied at the piano by Stefano Bollani, one of the best European jazzist. With Bollani, she had already realized "Abbassa la tua radio", homage to famous Italian songs of years 20 and 30 rivisited in a jazz key. This experience has given them the opportunity of participating at the Premio Tenco and the Umbria Jazz Winter in 2001. In 2006 Simona is shortlisted for the 56° Festival di Sanremo, where she sings "Tempesta", song written with Elisa included in the re-edition of "Sorgente". Also It's very notable her duet with Sarah Jane Morris, duet that marks the beginning of a profitable collaboration that will take them to sing together around Italy. Simona's live performances are really appreciated. in the last years Simona collects many other important collaborations to emphasize her versatility, she sings with Renato Zero in his 2006 winter tour "Zeromovimento", with Claudio Baglioni in the second edition of Oscia' 2004, she interprets "Prima che il vento" the most important song of Stefano Pasetto's movie "Tartarughe sul dorso" soundtrack written by Band Osiris that also participates to the Festival of Venice in 2004 and to the Prize Ravello in 2005. She also supports the AISLA (Italian Association Lateral Sclerosis Amiotrofica) with Ron interpreting with him "Ma quando dici amore", song present in the disc of which proceeds have been donated to the Association. Also she participates to “Canto perché non so nuotare da 40 anni” that celebrates 40 years of career of Massimo Ranieri singing with him " Ti penso " and participating in January 2007 to his transmission on Rai1 "Tutte donne tranne me". In April of the same year an audio-book of tales called "Felici e Cantanti" comes out in the book stores, it's published by Fabbri Editori and it contains 21 tales interpreted by many artists, between which Simona and Pacifico sing "Barbablues". In May, Simona has another important project, in supplement to the Expresso magazine comes out the cd "Parco della Musica Jazz Orchestra" directed by Fabrizio Giammarco where Simona revisited with strong personality two Italian classics by Mina. The first of June 2007 the new single "Presto arriverò da te" starts play rotation on the radio, fruit of the collaboration with the new producer Max Calò, refined soul - pop with an unmistakable sound that anticipates the album release for the next year.
