A 35-year music and acting career, A Television Star, A Legendary Name, World-renowned Entertainer,to categorize La Toya Jackson as anything less than a phenomenon, does not seem appropriate. Startin’ Over the new album from La Toya Jackson symbolizes what she has had the strength to do all her life.With success at a very young age, like what La Toya experienced, when an artist reaches the pinnacle of success, to bring a freshness and a newness to their audience, it becomes a challenge. No one could imagine, that this elegant, delicate and poised singer/dancer/actor/author would be tapped to headline the reality television show, “Armed & Famous,” that involved using a gun, being tazered, busting drug dealers, prostitutes, criminals and being a prostitute decoy. When CBS approached her with the idea, they knew that this was taking La Toya out of her comfort zone as an entertainer. Despite this, La Toya took the challenge and even with the grueling schedule, as everything else, La Toya saw the positive side to it and left with a new respect and admiration for our law enforcement and said as a result of this show, it has made her much stronger.
Growing up as one of the famed Jackson family that bordered on American Royalty, La Toya knew that she was constantly under scrutiny. With her faith and tenacity, La Toya always prevailed. Her approach was that of independence, often considered the maverick of the family.
This is evident from her success, diverse as conquering Playboy’s Magazine history by selling more than 8 million copies in one month, receiving an “A” for her “Step-Up Workout With La Toya Jackson ” exercise video, signing a multi-million dollar deal with the world famous Moulin Rouge in Paris, making the New York Times bestseller list with her book titled “La Toya, Growing Up In The Jackson Family,” appearing on ABC’s 20/20, Larry King Live , CNN, VH-1 All Access and almost every other major media outlet show in the world and paving her own way in Entertainment History.
La Toya says that this album is very personal and mirrors her real life experiences. She said that finally she was able to take control of this album from start to finish that was critical to reflect the way she feels. Everything everyone speculated about her, her feelings towards her family, the incessant intrusion of the tabloids, her friends and her life in general.
With experience comes the calm of knowing that she does not need to prove herself, because she has done it in more ways than one and in several aspects of her life.
