Thana Alexa Pavelic’s voice is powerful and her presence is captivating. She sings for audiences, not at them. All aspects of music connect her more deeply to the various communities of young artists of the world and it is music that has given her the ability to explore parts of herself greater than her physical being. Her singing is a gift to her, and a gift she also gives to the world.Thana Alexa Pavelic, an already established jazz and blues vocalist in New York City, has been performing since she the age of four when she began playing the violin. Before moving to Croatia at age 13, she had been a distinguished member of many school orchestras in which she held the position of concert master, including the Stamford Youth Symphony. Only after winning her middle school talent show by singing a duet with a friend did she realize her hidden ability to sing.Pavelic gave her first solo concert in 2005 in Dubrovnik, Croatia, as a fund raiser for the Dubrovnik Cultural Center at the Karantena Festival, accompanied by an international group of musicians ranging from Croatia, Bosnia and Macedonia, to America, with whom she joined again at the Sarajevo Jazz Festival a few months later. Shortly after, she performed for the first time with the Zagreb Symphony Orchestra in front of 2000 people in tribute to one of Croatia’s most distinguished actors, Zeljko Vukmirica.Thana has been a guest performer for many renowned European jazz musicians since her breakthrough into the Croatian jazz scene, including countless performances with the Boško Petrovic Trio in Zagreb’s B.P Jazz Club and in Zagreb’s Carnegie Hall equivalent, Lisinski Concert Hall, a performance with Austrian jazz vocalist Ines Reiger accompanied by Emil Spanyi and others, and has, since her move back to the US, been studying jazz vocal performance at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music under the direction of many well-known musicians on the scene (Bernard "Pretty" Purdie, Richard Harper, Junior Mance, and Billy Harper to name a few).Pavelic has since begun composing and arranging for the New School's R&B ensemble, directed by Bernard "Pretty" Purdie. Her compositions have been performed countless times at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music and at Sweet Rhythm Jazz Club in New York City."Music is my passion and through it, I have found myself and fed my soul with the natural highs that it has awarded me. Singing, composing and playing the violin and guitar have become the foundations of my existence. Without music, my life would be without color, significance, passion or emotion. Singing Jazz/ Blues/ Soul/ R&B has contributed to my intellectual experience as student and has served as an outlet in times of tension, anxiety and personal unhappiness. The music is in my bones and singing all genres has become my soul’s passage to enlightenment. My creativity is my guide through life, which is why I seek to apply my creative techniques to all areas of knowledge, life and work." - Thana Pavelic
