The Thunderheads LIVE at Music on the Square
The Thunderheads play PENETRATION.
Semie Mosely, D. W. Griffith, JACO.
I've been playing bass for a few years and I'm currently working with 2 bands in east Tennessee.During the past 10 years, I've played bass with The Reflections. They are a popular motown-based, dance band playing the local wedding reception circuit. We are a big band with a big sound (and the highest-paid band in the area). In addition, I'm playing in a surf rock band called The Thunderheads. We play classic surf instrumentals -- I love this type of music....it's just fun to play. We do many songs by The Ventures, Dick Dale, The Safaris, The Shadows, The AquaVelvets, and a few others. I'm breaking a huge surf rock rule by using a German-made Warwick bass instead of one of my Fenders or my beloved Mosrite. I'm sorry guys, but the Warwick simply cuts through all the mud and gets the job done. However, they just can't compare to the beauty of the Mosrite. Hands down...it's the most beautiful bass ever made. But, at the end of the day when you strap on a Warwick - you're going to be heard!Regarding bass rigs, I've truly fallen in love with the Genz-Benz Neo-Pack 3.5 with the Neo 2X10 cabinet. It's loud, clear, and amazingly lightweight. I never would have dreamed that such a round tone and big bass sound could come out of such a small package. It even sounds good with a 5-string. But, I can't give up my 500 watt SWR head with the Henry the 8th cabinet and the Goliath Jr. III cab. I also have a Genz-Benz M-line 200 combo (great for rehearsals)My small bass guitar collection consists of 4 Warwick Thumbs (Jack Bruce, bleached blonde, bleached blonde 5-string, and my trusty bolt-on), a 1968 Fender Telecaster bass with EMG pickups, a 1965 Fender Precision (all original), and a 1966 single-pickup Mosrite. The strings are Warwick Black Label medium weight and Thomastik Jazz Flats. The only pedal I use is the FX62 Bass Stereo Chorus and Moog Moogerfooger lowpass filter. By the way, I'm still using an old Conn "Strobotuner"! Now, THAT'S old school equipment.
