Igor Compagno was born in Mestre (Venice) march 20th 1973 and he lives and works in Mira (Venice).
His artistic journey starts during the early nineties as self-taught painter.
Originally his works were mainly concept paintings, where he represented through wide strokes human figures, avoiding a direct figurative style. As a result the paintings convey a dreamlike and surreal atmosphere.
A big change takes place giving up progressively the smooth shapes for a more immediate expression trougth more instictive strokes and lines, using colors and shades to express the feelings and crossing straight lines to represent the thoughts.
In the pictures the stroke becomes more abstract and refined at the same time.
Brush-strokes are nervous, sometimes violent and they creates emotional tension generating a contrast between real physical space and illusion, in a dynamic and definetly suggestive tangle. Everything comes from
an ideal project holding inside the real meaning of his innermost thoughts. Marks are the natural extension of his mind. He provokes a transposition of actions suggested by the elaboration of his thoughts which are emphasized by the awareness of the reality we live in. Against the immobility of his thoughts and against the universality in general, he promotes an unrestrined freedom of the individual, the spontaneity and everything is immediate and gestural. He is for anarchy agaist the order, for the imperfection against the perfection. Against the mind fossilization which can never be trapped in the straight-jacket that rules are.
