Introducing KOA SIU, a dynamic artist and songwriter from Hawaii.
It’s not every day that you see a Hawaiian boy playing solid rock songs and singing mainstream-style ballads— but then, KOA’s not you’re every-day musician. The son of Hawaii’s most innovative recording duo, Leon and Malia, Koa’s taking the music in his roots to an uncharted level. Although KOA is an accomplished guitarist and drummer, it’s his crystal-clear vocals that stand out the most. KOA’s voice seems to cut through the forest of competing sound to touch the listener deeply, right Where You Are .
KOA was born and raised in Hawaii— graduated from Aiea High School, attended Hillsdale College in Michigan, and then graduated from Pacific Rim Bible College in Honolulu. KOA practically grew up in studios and at music gigs as he followed his parents, Leon & Malia , through their many musical exploits. In 1998, KOA began to define his own musical style with the release of Thirsty Life . From 1999-2008 KOA could be found in Waikiki’s most prestigious hotels as a solo act, or a delightful father-son duo with his dad Leon. As part of New Hope Christian Fellowship with Pastor Wayne Cordeiro, KOA served as the Worship Pastor at New Hope Hawaii Kai Church from 2003-2007. In April of 2007 KOA released his long-awaited second album Where You Are which earned a 2008 Hoku Award nomination for “Rock Album Of The Yearâ€. In October 2007 Koa released a Christian worship-music album entitled, I Am Yours—A Worship Experience with Koa . From September-December 2007, Koa visited 17 churches on 3 islands to bring his special brand of worship to over 17,000 people. I Am Yours also received a 2008 Hoku Award nomination for “Religious Album of the Yearâ€.
Koa is joyfully married to his wife Sarah and has two wonderful children, Kekoa (3), Kalea (1). For more family info, please visit: www.koaandsarah.com .
Koa’s wife Sarah Siu is also a graduate of Pacific Rim Bible College and has just published her first book: Run To You—a guide through miscarriage . Koa’s song, Great Day in Heaven , speaks specifically about Koa & Sarah’s first miscarried child and is currently being offered as a free download in conjunction with the book.
In January of 2008, the Siu family re-located to Sydney, Australia to become part of Hillsong Church and attend Hillsong Leadership College.
