About Me
We are an association of blues musicians, fans, bar and club owners who love the Texas Blues. The Lone Star State was home to amazing artists such as Albert Collins, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Lightnin' Hopkins, T-Bone Walker, Janice Joplin, Freddie King, Billy Gibbons, Johnny Winter, Edgar Winter, Big Mama Thornton, Johnny "Guitar" Watson, Jimmie Vaughan and Stevie Ray Vaughan, just to mention a few. The Texas blues are a blend of gritty, in-your-face lead guitar, smooth slide guitar, tight rythm sections, lightning-fast keyboards, whailing harmonicas and crisp horns, often incorporating a shuffle rythm or slow swing that separates the style from Chicago, Memphis or Delta blues. Although Texas is a big state with big talent, many great blues artists born elsewhere made Texas their home as they discovered a fertile market for their craft. One notable example, "Sweet Sam" Meyers, legendary harmonica player from Jackson, MS, made Dallas his home in 1986 until his passing July 17th, 2006. Robert Johnson chose San Antonio and Dallas to record his music. Eric Clapton, as a tribute to Robert's music, recorded his Crossroads album in the same Dallas studio. Austin City Limits, a PBS broadcast, often highlights blues artists on a nationwide platform. Of these broadcasts, I personally don't think you can find any better than Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble Live at Austin, TX. If you haven't seen the DVD, you owe it to yourself to see what Texas Blues is all about. We miss you Stevie. Please take every opportunity to enjoy and support Texas Blues artists in your area.
