Matt Larsen is an exciting young teenage singer/songwriter from Perth, Western Australia. His ability to create catchy melodies and foot tapping rhythms combined with meaningful lyrics has delighted audiences both young and old. Matt is also an accomplished drummer and plays all the instruments on his recordings to date.As a solo acoustic act Matt brings a full on pop/rock sound experience with the clever use of guitar, effects pedals and stomp box. Some special career highlights for Matt so far have been:2006 - winning the "WAMI" West Australian Music Industry Song of the Year (Primary Category) with his song "Free", and being the youngest ever to reach the grand finals of the "Step-up-Live" original songwriters competition in Fremantle.2007 - performing at both the Garage Kids Rock Festival and as an emerging artist at the West Coast Blues and Roots Festival in Perth. Appearing and performing live on Perth's Access 31 TV station, 89.7FM and 95.3FM radio stations. Gaining a residency at the Bar Orient (Fremantle).Matt's debut EP "Undeniable" is out now! It's on sale directly from this site via iTunes or at all good independent record stores throughout Perth! Here's a selection of recent CD review comments Matt's recieved....."This is the sort of thing that's going to turn up on e-bay in about 10 years when Matt Larsen is a star. It'll be a collector's item and the smart punter will get big bucks for it. See, the kid has only just turned 13, but already he's writing his own material, and singing and playing every instrument on this, his debut ep. Hailing from Perth, Larsen has already won WAMI awards, and 'Undeniable' shows you why. Here he displays a finely-attuned pop sensibility, as he effortlessly marries U2 and Coldplay's wide-screen gestures with a Jebediah-like bounciness. Lyrically, there are signs of a deeper, enquiring mind at work (on Not By Chance he muses on creation, for example), and so he compares favourably with a certain famous teen predecessor who once rhymed 'sink' with 'the water out of the tap is very hard to drink'.Of course, 'Undeniable' is also still a first step. Larsen is still finding his voice. Ben Lee, for example, took maybe a decade to morph from a 14-year old punk wunderkind to respected pop craftsman. It may or may not take young Matt that long to gain national recognition, and at this early stage of his development who knows what he'll sound like when it happens. But whether it'll be solo or as part of a band, the well that he's drawing from is just going to get deeper and he's just going to get better and better. Keep an ear out."Peter Strelan - Drum Media"Thirteen year old local lad Matt Larsen has produced a nifty little EP that not only shows off a keen songwriting ability, but also a fair aquaintance with drums, bass, guitar and keys. Once his voice breaks, Larsen will have had two more years on top of Undeniable, which is extraordinarily advanced for someone of his age. His catchy pop/rock songs bring to mind the earlier work of Jebediah and allthough his lyrics lack the depth of age, so to do they lack the naivety of the teen-ages."Mike Wafer - X-press magazine"This Perth 13-year old has some serious talent. He plays every instrument on this, his debut EP (Just like a mini Billy Corgan), and is pretty accomplished with all of them. Keep an eye out for this kid."Nick Sas - The Drum MediaHere's a live performance review...One of the wonderful and entertaining events of the CAYPAKS Conference launch ball was the young talent Matt Larsen. Matt is 13 years of age and has already released his first album labelled "Undeniable" - released one day before his 13th birthday. Matt performed several of his pieces - all written and played by him for us within the majestic ballroom of Government House. He can play a wide variety of instruments, and plays every instrument in each of his songs.
