Chris Klondike Masuak

About Me

I'm a guitar player and stuff. Australian Music Hall of Famer. Rock God.
"The reclusive Masuak carries one of Australian Rock n' Roll's proudest pedigrees, citing membership in Radio Birdman, The Hitmen, The New Christs, The Screaming Tribesmen, The Juke Savages, The Raouls (as a drummer, no less), Vindicator Electro/Smooth (in various capacities), and most recently, Klondike's North Forty.
'Klondike' almost single-handedly kept the flame burning throughout the last decades of the Twentieth Century, at a time when his guitar heroes had retired, were languishing in jail, had been blown into clouds of pink matter, or had been otherwise heinously indisposed."(Lenny Flotski, Vicious Kitten, 2000)
Well so they say...
What really happened is that I became a more than passable Naturopath and lecturer, a really, really good Dad and totally shitty partner and businessman.
I remain commited to the Burhaniyya and Naqshbandi Seekers of Truth.
These days Radio Birdman occasionally bundle me off to all kinds of wacky-assed places. The rest of the time I write and rock with my own band Klondike's North Forty, and with The Hitmen. And whoever else wants to have a play.
Life's kind of an experience. Isn't it?!

My Interests

I'm interested in knowing how/why life can be such complete crap and relatively wonderful at the same time. My kids are the good bit.

And speaking of time, it's all about the timing, which is never right, ergo aforementioned complete crap.

Otherwise, just "being". Keeping it together. That kind of stuff. Hard, ain't it?

Oh yeah...and guitars.

I'd like to meet:

Shaykh Nazim al Haqqani, Lucinda Williams, Jimmy Vaughan, Mitch Ryder, Buck Dharma, John Fogerty, Erik Brann, David Schnarch, Francoise Hardy, Zoot Horn Rollo, Leslie West. Johnny Winters, Billy Stewart, Jorma Kaukonen, Redd Volkaert, Bill Kirchen, Fabienne Shine, Madeleine Peyroux...

Music:

Seems to be taking over.

Movies:

AngelA, Malcolm X, The Message, Lady In The Water, Milo and Otis, Hairspray (the original, not the crap remake), The Incredibly Strange Creatures That Stopped Living And Became Mixed Up Zombies, especially whatever the kids are watching, or whatever's showing on the flight.

Television:

Nah.

Books:

Al Kitab, Northern Lights (Phillip Pullman), Musicophilia (Oliver Sacks), The Essential Titus Burckhardt, The Reign of Quantity and the Signs of the Times (Rene Guenon), Science: A History (John Gribbin), The Politically Incorrect Guide to American History (Thomas E. Woods, Jr., The Kashful Mahjub (Syed Ali bin Uthman al-Hujweri). Calvin and Hobbs.

Heroes:

Al Mustafa, my kids, my Dad, Chris Catsanis (R.I.P.), Will Hoyle (R.I.P.), Fred "Sonic" Smith, Brother Wayne Kramer, women in general (despite my appalling track record), etc ad infinitum...

The Chill

I'm a bit melancholy at the moment. It's no secret that the woman I still (reluctantly) love left me a year ago this month. She didn't think that we had grown together as partners. By being alone she...

Quantity Versus Quality

QUANTITY VERSUS QUALITY Bismillahi ir-Rahman ir-Rahim. It is my sad but general experience as a Naturopath that clients generally arrive reluctantly, having exhausted all familiar resources and with...

"Who Am I"

WHO AM "I"Our main, if not, only problem is that we do not remember ourselves. We do many things in the course of our days, yet consciously participate in very little! Our days are filled with reaction...
