About Me
Fire My WordsLABRAT Muzik began in 1997 which was then called Brickwall Records. The members then included DVS, Brave Dave, Playa Bo, and Nate Dog. Their first album "Call it Whatcha Want" was released in 1998 which featured two future members Lil Wyte and Mr. Bunkley, aka Son of Sam. Lil Wyte came on bolard between 98-99 when the group recorded their second release The Shelby Forest Click - "From the Hood 2 tha Woodz" which was released in early 2000. On December 17th, 2000, they lost fellow member Nate to a car wreck. In early 2001, after waiting outside the K97 studio for 3-6 members, DJ Paul and Jucy J to make their exit, DVS and Playa Bo gave a copy of their second album to the founders of Hypnotized Mindz. There were offered a recording contract as a group and as individual artists but after 5 months of negotiations, they were advised to pass up the offer by their attorney. Soon after, Lil Wyte signed with the label. With Lil Wyte gone, Mr. Bunkley and Gnarly Charlie AKA Chuck Sweaty joined LabRat Muzik. That same year Playa Bo was shot during an attempted robbery so DVS put the studio at his house to start recording his solo effort. After barely surviving a fatal home invasion which left two dead, DVS finished recording his album at his mother's duplex. Towards the end of March, 2002, Mack DVS - "Tempted" was released. With the music headed in the right direction, DVS was in a downward spiral and was arrested on May 18th, 2002 for second degree murder. Everything came to a screeching halt for LabRat Muzik after his arrest when one of the founding members and in-house beat maker, Playa Bo, backed out of the group and took all equipment and all released and unreleased material. LabRat Musiz was left silent. There seemed to be a glimmer of hope after April 14th, 2003 when DVS was released on a $100,000 bond, but was short lived when a jury delivered a guilty verdict on February 6th, 2004. With new members, Big A, Shrimpy and J.Nelson on board, the group got new equipment and begain trying to resurrect the LabRat name. With a resurgence seeming inevitable, "Big A's Lab Rat Mixtape Vol. 1" was released in late 2005. In mid 2006, member Mr. Bunkley left the group. Now with new solos on the way, they try to keep the name alive. Current members include Mack DVS, Brave Dave, Chuck Sweaty, Big A, J.Nelson, and Shrimpy. DVS is current serving a 17 year sentence in a West TN State Prison, but has filed a post conviction petition requesting a new trial.
