The Original "KING OF THE UNDERGROUND"

About Me

BIOGRAPHY (Official Press Release 2006)
Born in 1976 at Maricopa County Hospital in Phoenix AZ. King JC whose givin name is Jeff Cage was instantly introduced to music. At three years of age he started singing and performing. He was the son of a recently divorced mom and she encouraged his musical abilities throughout the years. His mom remarried and moved to Boston in 1981. King JC was introduced to the hip hop culture at a very young age being so close to New York. He fell in love with rap music and in 1985 wrote his first rap. By 86 JC was recording demos and when he moved to Albuquerque, NM. in 87 he started a group with his neighborhood friend. They recorded a ten song demo which they released locally entitled "Black & White" and performed in talent shows all over the city. Later the group broke up and King JC went solo. 1992 was JC's first attempt to release a solo effort entitled "Albuquerque Luv" originally there were only 50 pressed and to this day there are only 10 known copies in existance. In 93 he released his debut album King Of Flava. This was the first official rap release ever in the state of New Mexico according to Hastings (record store). That gave King JC the Pioneer title in the southwest. JC obtained a position with a major promotion firm in Phoenix, but stayed in NM and headed every major promotion campaign that came to Albuquerque. JC promoted concerts for such industry greats as Ice Cube, Da Brat, Bone Thugs N Harmony, R Kelly, Heavy D and Eazy E just to name a few. This great position lead to JC having his own radio show on college station 89.9 KUNM. He played mostly NM rap along with his own music but had a hard time obtaining a record deal from Albuquerque. In 94 JC moved to Memphis TN. with his family and continued self promoting his art in the south. JC quickly gained the respect of the music industry in Memphis and he signed his first record deal with OB Records where he recorded his 6th solo album Straight From The Bottom this album was considered an underground classic. Due to the untimely death of Oscar Barnes (CEO, OB Records) King JC was back on his own and released album number 7 which really helped him gain popularity and allowed DJ Trick (Producer) to take notice of JCs abilities as an artist. Trick contacted King JC in late 97 and put him in the studio to record album number 8. When the album was finished JC was able to secure a record deal with Indo Gs label Cloud 9 Records. JC featured on the Down South Ballin Compilation which sold 400,000 units nationally. This took JCs career to another level and allowed him to start his own Label Playalistic Entertainment. The first group he signed was: The 2nd Family they were very successful in Memphis. In 98 The King headed back to NM and started a group called Everlastin Drama. This group broke all kinds of local records in the southwest selling thousands of units giving Playalistic Entertainment the reputation as New Mexicos top record company. 2000 was the most successful year for JCs record label because Select O Hits offered the label a national distribution deal. So JC once again moved back to Memphis and released a movie and soundtrack called Memphis Gangsta Walkin this album sold very well allowing King JC to release his ..16 album but first ever national solo debut. The album was entitled Ana Off My Chest it was a very successful project earning him promo spots on magazine covers, news papers and tv shows. In the middle of the promotional tour he recieved devistating news that his wife was going to prison so he rushed back to Memphis to find out she would recieve a 4 year sentence leaving JC to raise his three children by himself. This slowed down his success but still havent stopped him. In 03 he signed Brother Marquis (former member of the legendary 2 Live Crew). JC also released an amazing mix cd in 04. Then keeping the wheels turning just put the finishing touches on his first solo album in over 3 years. King JC says hes getting more calls and offers than ever and looks forward to a great future in the business he loves and has known his entire life.
