Current Projects

* Duo Konstantin Wecker und Hakim Ludin

* Ensemble Zarbang
with persian trance music following Zarathustras path ZARBANG is a world percussion ensemble representing the finest percussionists from Iran and Afghanistan. Inspired by tribal rhythms, ZARBANG creates a new sound by utilizing instruments of various cultures while staying true to the essence and origin of each instrument. ZARBANG’s sound is dynamic, meditative and internal on one hand and ecstatic and trance inducing on the other, drawing upon Sufi and ancient Persian rhythms used for inducing altered states.

*The World Percussion Trio
Three master drummers, each from different disciplines, united in the universal language of rhythm. Steve Smith - jazz, blues, R&B drumkit specialist - joins forces with global percussionist Hakim Ludin - consummate artist with the frame drum, congas, djembe and kanjira. They are both underpinned by the young drum master Karuna Murthy, a supreme exponent of mesmerising and ancient tavil percussion. They each perform individually and then the set culminates in a tour-de-force trio piece blending composition, improvisation and pure inspiration. An outstanding performance as visitors of the concert on July 22nd, 2003 at the 'Royal Festival Hall, Purcell Room' witnessed it Purcell Room, Royal Festival Hall

*The GlobalJazzTrio
Following archaic patterns in fast rhythmic changes - this is the way ‚The GlobalJazzTrio’ presents itself. Center point is the chinese instrument called „Sheng“, a mouth organ, that has an over 3000 year old tradition. It is communicating with melodies from Sicily and an ancient asian frame drum, called Daira. Brought together and 'reinvented' by three artists who know how to excite their audience. Technically brilliant they set up a new sphere between traditional melodies and modern jazz interpretation. WuWei, Hakim Ludin und Carlo Rizzo are a fascinating Trio presenting music on highest artistic level.

* hands&feet
"Flamenco, a living tradition" is the title headlining the Flamenco Festival USA 2003 and depicting the multiplicity of artistic manifestations of the ever-changing Flamenco. Bettina Castaño is regarded as one of the outstanding Flamenco dancers of the so-called new generation having achieved world-class standards. It is with her powerful and yet delicate body language as well as her brilliant foot technique that she enthrals her audiences: she lives her dancing with true passion. Thanks to her inexhaustible wealth of different styles of choreography, her extraordinary repertoire of foot techniques and, of course, her strong personal expression she can conjure up interpretations of a very special nature.
In her new show entitled "hands & feet", Bettina Castaño joins forces with her rhythmic and artistic counterpart, the percussionist Hakim Ludin. Hakim has been fascinating international audiences with his virtuoso finger technique und rhythmic pace. No wonder that his solos recently performed in front of a sold out Royal Festival Hall, London, were applauded enthusiastically. Using an abundance of charm und creativity, he prepares the rhythmic foundation on which Bettina Castaño can freely develop her artistic variations.
"hands & feet" is a fascinating stage show combining flamenco dance with contemporary percussion; young, modern, unique. "hands & feet" - a captivating experience of virtuosity und artistry.

* percussion discussion
percussion solo performance
With a fine sense of humor, Hakim Ludin tells stories about his instruments and their background - counterchanged with current news and their correlation, always in mind that his mother tongue is music itself. His performance is easily flowing between jazzy soli, percussiv artistic and sound-sceneries full of phantasy. Hakim Ludin shows the many-sided, often unkonwn facets of an art-form that he has contributed a large part to in improving and forming it to an outstanding genre itself.
