Biography English:
Born in 1977 in Chahar Mahal, Bakhtiari, Iran, Reza Samani began studying the Tombak with his brother Behnam Samani at the age of eight and later became the student of D. Samani At twelve he picked up the Zorna and later the Ney-Anban and the Daf. In 1999 he traveled to Germany to collaborate on a project with the Ensemble Samani and from then he began his professional career and residency in Germany, where he pursued the study of music and world percussion. Reza has performed with Zarbang Ensemble and Ensemble Samani in numerous festivals and concerts throughout Europe. He teaches Tombak and Daf in Cologne, where he resides and conducts workshops throughout Germany.

Influences: After the big success of the percussion journey in 2008 we kick off again in 2009!The well-known percussionists Benham and Reza Samani offer a three-day percussion workshop atLake Frauensee in Reutte/Tirol.The workshop is a unique opportunity for all those who want to combine their passion for drumming, rhythm and ensemble playing with a short holiday in a beautiful landscape. The participants will discover, learn and check out new rhythms on typical Persian percussion instruments as Daf, Tombak and Udu. Our accommodation at Lake Frauensee is a unique location, beautifully situated at 1000 m above sea level, a quiet place to enjoy and swim in an idyllic lake, surrounded by mountains and forests inviting you to do walks and excursions. The accommodation offers comfortable single and shared rooms with central heating and washing facilities (with shared toilets and showers). On the ground floor you find a big kitchen as well as a group room and a dining area with a lovely view of the lake and the mountains. Check in/check out Check in: Wednesday, 24th of June 2009 at 12.00 noon Check out: Sunday, 28th of June in the afternoon Boarding 4 overnight stays with breakfast, a little snack at lunch time, dinner with Persian specialities Workshop with Benham and Reza Samani Three-day workshop with 5 lessons each - for beginners, who want to get to know Daf, Udu and Tombak; basic drum playing techniques and presentation of several oriental rhythms- for intermediates who want to brush up and intensify their skills and increase their knowledge of rhythms and drum playing techniques Activities Apart from making music we will be able to enjoy the location near lake Frauensee, discover the country setting, hiking (hiking boots recommendable), spend some time together or just relax in the sun. Only two or four km away you find the villages Lechaschau and Reutte with shops or shopping mall, main station, taxi service, indoor or open air swimming-pool, sauna, post office, museum of local history, several inns and cafés. In the evenings we will spend our time with music, songs and dance near the campfire.
