Formed in September of 2004 as an excuse to be drunk in public and yell swearwords into microphones, the POGs began innocently enough with Jerry Demon on guitar and vocals, Stu Padaso on bass and backing vocals, and Juice on drums. After 4 months of learning how to play their respective instruments, the trio entered a local recording studio to record a live demo EP. “The Unmiked EP†which resulted in January of 2005, is a 4-song disc including the earliest versions of “Johnny†& “Prostitotsâ€. 100 copies of this disc were pressed and sold at shows throughout the Lower Mainland over the next several months.
During the summer of 2005 the lead vocal role was passed to Stu, who continued to play bass. September of 2005 saw the addition of a fourth member in Damien_o on bass guitar, leaving Stu to work as a frontman. In December of 2005, Damien_o was forced to leave to serve time for charges unrelated to the band. During his absence, Charlie Le Strange began his duties on bass guitar. In April of 2006, Charlie temporarily left to tour Europe for a month and a half with his down-tempo psytrance project. During this time Damien_o was again recruited to play bass guitar, this time for the second studio venture the “PLEASE MAKE ILLEGAL COPIES OF THIS DISC†LP. 16 tracks were recorded live over 6 hours for a total cost of $300. Known distribution of this disc is slightly over 800, as 400 copies were created by the band and given out at shows and the album was also placed for free download on our website, receiving 400+ downloads to date.
Upon his return in June, Charlie resumed his position on bass guitar, while Damien_o began to play lead guitar. Regular gigging as a 5-piece band occurred throughout Vancouver, as well as several all-age shows in Langley. Following getting banned from a local coffee house in January of 2007, the POGs launched a mini tour of virtually all other venues to play in Langley. One of these gigs was filmed and made into a split disc with Denderah. The “Live in Langley (die.in.langley)†DVD was printed in limited run of only 25 copies, which sold out at the following show.
The filming of the DVD marked one of Juice’s last shows with the group, his final appearance being a legendary show in Surrey on Easter Sunday of 2007. After a month long audition process, the POGs welcomed Dick Awesome on as their newest brother. After 2 months and a few shows, the POGs returned to the studio to cut tracks for a 5-piece disc. After 2 nights of recording, 14 tracks were completed, some or all of which will soon appear on the upcoming release.
In September of 2007, Charlie left the band to work on his new project Day-in-Out. With his departure came the arrival of Roy Skorbison. In March of 2008, damien_o annouced he was leaving to focus his energies on Wild Life. Roy and Jerry have recently begun splitting guitar and bass duties writing material for an EP to be released in 2008.
