Leora Lynn Woodsmall was a vibrant, normal fifteen year old girl. There were so many things that made her special. She had an infectious laugh, a truly goofy sense of humor, a true, pure heart...and a rare & deadly cancer.Leiomyosarcoma is an extremely rare cancer. It attacks the soft tissues of the body with large, fast growing tumors. Approximately 4 in a million cancer cases are LMS.
Although it usually affects the older adult population,Leora began to show symptoms right after her fifteenth birthday, which was July 22nd of 2002. She was diagnosed in November of the same year. She was dead the following April. As so many people know, cancer is a cruel disease. I watched it kill my child in only five short months.LMS has no known cure. It is terribly aggressive, and non-responsive to most chemo and radiation.
