DIA DE LA MUSICA 2007 21 June 2007 – Barcelona, Spain ************************************************************ ******* The celebration of this event stems back to an personal initiative introduced by the Minister of Culture of the French Government, back in 1981. The intention was for any music lover to come and express themselves in the street, with an instrument, or simply to have a good time with other musicphiles. ************************************************************ *******INTIMA | Breakbeat Drum n’ BassSimilar to just about nothing. He started playing out at places such as MOSKU, and also with DIMENSIONS in the BANANA BEACH and M25, places linked to the RAVE AGE of that era. Early in 1993 he began working as a resident at MOR and SABOR (also with DIMENSIONS) playing HOUSE or what is now known as OLD KOOL (sic??!). He worked at BANANA BEACH and supported THE PRODIGY. Later on he worked at LONG LESS (Puerto Banús) and at the Atmosfiear (Estepona). At the the end of 1997 and 1998 he took a break from music, whilst he got to grips with new musical styles that were coming through. He picked up again, starting with breakbeat sessions on the radio for MUNDO EVASSION as part of a collective (INTENSIVE SOUNDS), mixing together with DJ GEORGE. He also played back to back with DJ KULTUR and DJ ANUSHKA. Later on he worked at the REFLEX MUSIC festival in the ‘victory’ corner in the PALADIUM club. More recently he has started working for clubs in and around the leisure port of Puerto Banús (a zone with lots of music history) in places such as RUBY and COLONIAL CAFÉ. He has also spun wax in HEAVEN CAFÉ in Calahonda, with Z MUSIC’S from London, where he hit the decks together with JAEME HARTMAN from MINISTRY OF SOUND. ************************************************************ ****** ************************************************************ ****DJ CHICHO MARTINEZ | Electro HouseChicho Martinez is one of the DJ’s who have grown in stature and reputation the most in the past few years. He started as a young lad, and at the age of 15 worked in bars doing odd jobs and handling PR. At the age of 19 he moved to Barcelona to look for work and it was there that he became absorbed into the world of music, bringing music to the DJ’s and buying his first records. Once he went back to Tenerife, he took charge of places such as Babalu, a legendary after party in the Puerto de la Cruz, where he began to lay down some sets. Then he moved on to Laguna, working in Barock and organising events and parties such as zoom club at BB+, after which, in 2003, he took over the number one after parties in the Canaries, the BB+. He holds a residency there as a DJ, and has risen through the ranks to become one of Tenerife’s top DJ’s. He never stops working, and whenever he can he pops over to other islands. His musical style is varied and is always focused on making the dance floor move to house rhythms, from tribal house to tech house, without forgetting progressive house, which is his signature sound. ************************************************************ ****** ************************************************************ ***** EMETH - HNM | Rock / Psychedelic Garage rockA rock/psychedelic garage rock band, inspired by the progressive music of the 70’s.From their beginnings, the quartet has experimented with airy sounds based on psychedelic and noise vanguards. However, it is only once the band throws in the synthesisers that their sound really comes together, and begins to delve into the possibilities that the mixture of guitar noise, acid rock and psychedelic synth frequencies. Also available is the band’s ‘alter-ego’: The Human Noise Machine. A parallel project, in the form of a duo or trio with a purely experimental character. The music is based mostly on the improvisation of lines and pre-written music. The concept and the sound of each performance varies according to the context that the performance is taking place in, even though the rudism, the dreamlike poetry, the most narcotic beats and their complete uncertainty are their characteristics. ************************************************************ **** ************************************************************ **** INTIMA | Break Beat Drum n’ BassArgentinian break beat and drum n’ bass. Formed in 2000 by Carlos Solá, Sebastián Cohn and Salvador Reynoso.Similar to just about nothing. Their sound is a toxic blend of acoustic and electronic tones, influenced by sampler culture and the distortion of sounds from the rave scene of the 90’s. The beat of the bass, the beats from the acoustic drums and the processing of these using music technology of today’s age create the necessary rhythm for the body and the mind.Too rock to be dance music, and too dance to be rock music, Intima represents the scaling of new heights.Intima have taken their sound to different parts of Latin America and Europe, being amongst the stand out performers at ‘La mar de musicas’ festival in Spain, ‘Encuentro de sonidos industrials en el Gaetan’ in Colombia, ‘Rock en ñ’ in Chile, and three times at ‘Creamfields’ in Argentina. The proof of their activity is in the 2 studio albums they have released, Intima (2001) and Niño Bomba (2003). They are currently working hard to put out their third record.***************************************************** *********** ************************************************************ ****DJ MIGUELO | Dance musicMiguelo started out as a DJ in 1991, playing out for fun at private parties. That year he was offered a residency at Le Circ (ex zoo, exogroove) one of the biggest clubs at the time. Bonny also has his own personal ambient project which is called Afgan, in which some members of Emeth, Cesar or Felipe also take part in. The latter is part of Nonac, a satellite group of the collective, and is also a member of G.A.F. Tomás has his own two personal projects, Postman and abstract groove. Then we have Ekatsim, a travelling group which changes its members every time they perform. Jesús goes it alone (obviously) making up Un Hombre Solo, just like Javi, with Resonance. Phew. ************************************************************ **** ************************************************************ **** DJ AFG-AN | Dance musicOrganic dance music, minimalist and rhythm created using spontaneous hardware sounds.Afg-an, the most ambient, contemplative and unipersonal (and schizophrenic at the same time) face of GAF, comes from long and progressive developments of sound textures which weave between dreamy landscapes; fruit of a constant interaction between sound and the context in which it expands, Afg-an’s music continuously reinvents itself, following escape routes and searching out places where the codification becomes impossible but unnecessary. ************************************************************ **** ************************************************************ ****** DJ ALECS MARTA | Dance musicDuring his childhood, in the mid 80’s was when the curiosity for electronic and synthesised sounds first awoke in this boy. His record collection started with albums by Kraftwerk, Dpeche Mode, The Cure, Nitzer Ebb, followed by remixes. It was here that he first started experimenting by mounting different sound clips on his recordings. In 1989, he began choosing the music for sessions in a pub, and he wanted to try share his taste in music with the public. At this same time, he started working as a technician for a radio program in Barcelona that went out on Saturday nights. From his beginnings as a professional DJ, at the start of the 90’s, his path has been varied and wide. He has combined his residencies in the most important clubs on the Catalan scene (always linked with his work in coordinating events and imaging) with parties in charismatic clubs around the country. On a professional level, the past seven years have been exclusively dedicated to deep dance musicwithout limitations of styles, always going for a heterogenic and plural set where eclecticism evolves from the crowd. Previously his work was based at popular super clubs, whilst on his personal side developed in parties with a private character that could take place in the most unexpected of places. In 1999, along with other people, he created the Concuerda group, with whom he organised monthly events in different parts of Catalonia, fusing a wide variety of art with dance music. The first year of this nomadic project found a fixed point of operations, Concuerda Espacio Plural, the club which put on exhibitions, shorts, happenings, diverse musical performances, live as well as experimental such as hip hop and dance music. During this period, Alecs had the residency at his club (Concuerda Espacio Plural), sharing the DJ booth with artists such as Martin Landsky, Tony Verdi, D.Diggler, Colin McLaren, Oliver Bondzio (Hardfloor), Cristian Vogel, Michelle Grinser, Ricardo Villalobos, Tim Baker, Dave Tarrida, Jaumëtic, Swat-Squad, Steve Rachmad, Pascal F.E.O.S., Surgeon, Gaetano Parisio (Gaetek), Trevor Rockcliffe, Jamie Anderson, Oscar Mulero, Leandro Gámez etc. He has played at various nights all over the peninsula such as the 1st and 3rd edition of Freestyle (Terrasa/ BCN), or the main annual party of the UAB (Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona). In February 2004, Lunática bcn was born, a promotion agency run by Alecs Marta with the help of Oliver Henares and Jaumëtic, founders and the face of two of the labels with the most international reach, Pulsewith and Regular. After a year and a half, Alecs became part of the heads of Pulsewith, with its new project Pulsewith Online, the ‘netlabel’ of said label. On the decks, 2 words define him: technique and psychology, 100%. After all, 14 years of experience must count for something. His first foray into the world of music production came in 1993, and in 1996 he brought out his first record, combining his roles as DJ and producer. He is currently working on various projects which will appear shortly on European labels.Discography:Reaction vol.1 - Bass hard - Ginger music _ 1996 Reaction vol.2 - Orange & Lemon - Ginger music _ 1997 Reaction vol.3 - Three elements - Ginger music _ 1998 Paul Droid - All the good things (Isla de luz) in collaboration with Xavi Barranquero Blanco & Negro _ 1999 Les fill du soleil - Lunart - Vale music _ 2000 ************************************************************ **** ************************************************************ **** ************************************************************ **** DJ EKATSIM | Experimental RockA band from Tenerife immersed in ambient experimental rock. It is a parallel project with another classic Canarian rock band, Mistake, which has lots of experience with collaborating with various musical styles on the islands. In their live sessions, Ekatsim emphasises their long and instrumental compositions, frequently characterised by their evocative melodies and a slow a progressive mathematic development to an explosion of sound at the end. ************************************************************ ****** ************************************************************ ****DJ GLIMPSE | TechnoPerhaps one of the most personal projects of the Drone collective.A Persoanl sound, it ha sits influences, but the personality is not lost.Visual music, authentic expressionism through sound with brushstrokes in between that alone are abstractions, making way for a collective who go from the most chilled out ambient to techno and drum n’ bass.Lo-fi and home made dance music, all together, weaving through musical landscapes and varying rhythms. Long tunes, evocative and trippy melodies. A true gem of a group. ************************************************************ **** ************************************************************ ****DJ JACOBO PADILLA | Dance musicBorn in Tenerife in 1978, he first started liking electronic music in the mid nineties, when, at only 15 years of age, he joined the ranks as a DJ at Fever, one of the most emblematic clubs on the breakbeat scene on the south of the island. He held a residency there for 3 years, sharing his booth with some of the most influential names on the scene, and alternating his work with cosy sessions at an after party ‘Distractions’ where he managed to gather a crowd who loved pure and eclectic sounds. After a period which saw him pass through some of the most influential clubs in Southern Tenerife such as Bobbys, Busbys, Tramps and Paradise, it was in 1998 that his career took an important turn towards more elegant and house beats. This led him to take a residency at Metropolis, one of the pioneers of the club scene in Tenerife, where he shared the booth with national and international DJ’s such as Cesar del RÃo , Cesar de Melero , Oliver , Java , Alberto Palacios , Grobas , Higinio a.k.a. Chamán , Miguel Mendoza , Jesús González , Angel Costa , José Rives , Emmanuel , Marc Hughes , Miss Jools. In September 2001, he got a slot on the radio, on sur Adeje, on the program ‘Territorio DJ’s’ together with Iván Hernández. His skills on the decks led him to be part of such festivals as ‘Vulcania 02’ (the first festival of independent music in Tenerife), ‘Cabeza de Perro’, ‘Motiva2’, ‘Image’ (where he shared the stage with Bernard Habis, Xavi Newton and DJ Chus), and ‘Eólica’ with Eddie Amador, Ricardo Villalobos, Fernando Gullón, 7th Heaven etc. He has taken part in such events as the unveiling of ‘Custo’s’ clothing line and also ‘San Juan’ night in 2002 and 2003, on the Fañabé beach, and in clubs such as ‘Convento’, ‘Barrock’, ‘Vampis’, ‘Sat’, ‘Xitio’, ‘Iguana’, ‘Sketch’, ‘BB+’ etc. Since 2000 until now he is one of the most sought after DJ’s at the famous Tenerife Carnival where his session bring together large crowds. In 2003, he performed at Magma, the European Winter Meeting. At this festival, which is trying to convert itself into the main meeting point for professionals from the sector, Jacobo Padilla was selected as a representative of DJ’s from the Canary Islands, which allowed him to be on a line-up which included such names as Funk d’Void, Pascal F.E.O.S. and Ricardo Villalobos. It was precisely at this festival, where he showed off his first production, ‘CachaÇa’, the fruit of the latest project he had worked on, together with Alberto “Beto†Uña, Nacho Romero and Matteo Malavasi : Syncope Recordings, the new record label based in Tenerife, which promised to be one of the big surprises of 2004, an important year in the career of this Canarian DJ. He has performed in the dance music capitals of the world. In Amsterdam, he went back to back Erick E, Lacroix, Sem Sonic and Kevin Saunderson, as part of the first anniversary of the club ‘Motion’ held at the prestigious Hotel Arena club.******************************************************* ********* ************************************************************ **** DJ ISTMA | Raw FileIstma’s sessions use scientific interpretation of the beat, to sway away from the cliché to form cosy and hypnotic landscapes. Raw file music holds the same philosophy, creating melancholic sounds in a bizarre romanticism, which due to its nature, requires the listener to be surrounded by a minimalist presentation of tunes. In short, music to close your eyes to and move between different atmospheres. ************************************************************ **** ************************************************************ **** DJ M.A.N.D.Y. | House / Techno / Electro-popPatrick Bodmer and Philipp Jung another partnership of DJ’s and producers based in Berlin. There, they go out and joke around with other stars of the dance scene such as Ali and Basti Tiefscwarz. Their productions swing from upbeat house to techno and electro-pop.In this vein, they have created remixes for the Sugababes and Silicon Souls, which quickly became club hits. Their remix of Galleon’s “So I Begin†hit number 5 in the French charts. They run the deep house record label Get Physical Music together with DJ T (Thomas Koch) and Booka Shade (Walter Merziger + Arno Kammermeyer + Peter Hayo). In May 2004 they remixed “Get Physical†which they included with the remix of “I Don’t Know†by Chelonis R. Jones, done by Justus Köhncke or tunes by Booka Shade, DJ T or Lopazz amongst others… ************************************************************ **** ************************************************************ **** DJ MARTIN ARMENTANO | House/ TechHouse / Electro/ BreaksIn 2000, influenced by the sounds of Disco music and English Pop music, sounds that he used to mix, Martin Armentano began giving out records to resident DJ’s at pop and dance music parties which were taking place in Confiteria Ideal. Whilst Diego Ro-k was in charge of ‘musicalising’ the Dance room, Martin was invited to mix alongside Fabian Norese and Tiberio in the Pop room (80’s, 90’s, Brit Pop, Hip Hop).In 2001, Martin Armentano took to the electronic room at ConfiterÃa Ideal, warming up for the resident Aldo Haydar 6 times. This led him to getting a residency at Warhols (actually called Cocoliche) in the chill out room.In 2003 he was in charge of the electronic music set for @lternativ@, until half way through the year. He opened a new room dedicated 100% to electronic music at @lternativ@, where he was the resident. At that time he was also the artistic producer for the after party ‘Wicked’, where he pulled in such DJ’s as Diego Ro-K, Javier Bussola, Han Solo, Beltran and the revelation Manuel Sahagun, who was the resident DJ.Resident at Jah since October 2004 alongside Neutrino, Manueal Sahagun, Gastón Degese and other invited DJ’s, they come together in Palermo Hollywood every weekend.
