„Kauf Dir einen bunten Luftballon“ – German swing hits
in an entirely new, anarchistic guise!Deujazz presents old-school German swing hits in an entirely new, anarchistic guise, which meets the particular magic spell radiating from the music in a most surprising way. The lyrics merge ironic allusions and double entendre with a plea for peace and freedom. Along with the melodies emerges a stirring emotional force: charming, solemn, gloomy at times, fresh and bold – though authentic and natural all along. Now and then the singer uses her voice like an instrument. The trumpet-player creates chordal harmonies by using various plungers as well as playing the melodica, flugelhorn and bariton horn. A sensational rhythm section constantly creates a solid yet demanding fundament for both of the soloists. Since the days of Ella Fitzgerald and Lance Armstrong there has been nothing compared to deujazz: its brilliant musical dialogue of man and woman, human voice and trumpet, melancholy and cheekiness. You will be inclined to think that the music has been composed only yesterday especially for these both technically brilliant and creatively distinct artists. Right from the beginning the atmosphere is so highly fascinating that after the last song you’ll be asking in amazement: is it over already?„Cologne based singer Anette von Eichel has joined musical forces with Matthias Schriefel (tp), Robert Landfermann (b) and Jonas Burgwinkel (dr) in forming the quartet with the significant name Deujazz. Together with the currently omnipresent Schriefl she has worked her way through the history of German Schlager from the 1920s until the 1960s – and they have found striking material. Schriefl has arranged old songs like „Er Heißt Waldemar“, „Kauf Dir Einen Bunten Luftballon“ (being also the title of the CD) and the film music evergreen „Lalelu“ very personally for her and the band. These songs were recorded live at the jazzclub Studio 672 in Cologne in a wonderfully hurmoristic and affectionate way, the result is the first album of the band. Anette von Eichel’s interpretation of these old evergreens is as retrospective as it is modern and renewing – and adding the craftmenship of her fellow instrumentalists to her vocal artistry, even these simple songs can be the basis vor intriguing, modern Jazz made in Germany.“
