Red Dirt are based on the South coast and have had a number of guise's over the years settling on the duo of Russell Middleton and Ian Turner five years ago, although from differing musical backgrounds -Russell = singer/songwriter, Ian = jazz, they clicked and have produced a fine debut album of original material - Go Go USA - to critical acclaim. The Musicians union magazine wrote in review : ''Red Dirt have combined Folk, Jazz and song-writting to signifficant effect on this debut album, railing against the establishment with a knowing grin, Red Dirt aim a bold and piercing statement at the corrupt tainted and violent''.Red Dirt are in the process of putting together material for a second album and they continue to build a strong following in the south and south-west, live there is plenty of banter and humour between them and an appreciative audience, so if you are one of the millions wondering what the hell has happened to the music scene today, and if you want your music to mean something, say something, and challenge the corrupt, as opposed to the safe banal and bland that dominates today's mainstream, check out Red Dirt on album and live.
