"I graduated from the Royal Welsh College Of Music And Drama in 1997 where i studied Music Technology, specialising in performance based Electro-Acoustic Music.
As a session Musician I have played on numerous Records for a wide variety of Bands and Solo Artistes, and mainly due to the number of instruments I play, a lot of work within Television and Film as an Instrumentalist. Recent highlights include work for Composer Deri Roberts and Brollyman Productions with extensive Television, Documentary and Film Soundtrack work, and for R.T.Dafis on his epic debut double album."
As a Producer I have worked on many different projects including many commercial Dance Music releases, Albums, Television and Film Music, Music for Theatre and work for the BBC.
Highlights have been producing many hit single releases for top UK DJ's Phantom Beats, including co-producing their big hit Mercury, which entered the UK Dance Charts directly at Number 1, and producing their highly applauded BBC Radio 1 Evening Sessions. More recently I produced the Dave Stapleton Quintet debut album "When Life Was In Black And White", which has been highly praised within the International Jazz Press and UK National Newspapers. I was also the Saxophonist with that band which added to the complexity of the project."
JAZZWISE REVIEW NOVEMBER 2005 - DSQ Debut Album
"Following hot on the heels of the excellent Conway Suite, Stapleton’s improvised duo with Deri Roberts, this quintet release deserves a wide audience. Stapleton is a highly talented composer and pianist and these nine originals are full of powerful riffs, melodic hooks and intriguing and surprising turns of phrase.
With a remarkable young band from the Welsh scene, it’s truly heartening to hear music this vital and fresh. Paula Gardiner is an unusually imaginative and forthright bass player. With Jonny Bruce’s jabbing trumpet and Elliot Bennett a brave and subtle keeper of complex time, this group is a real find.
However, in a way, saxist Marcin Wright seems the most interesting of the bunch. On tenor in particular, there’s a rich sense of history to his approach. He’s obviously listened far wider then the usual ‘Trane, Shorter and Brecker checklist, with hints of Shepp and Golson but also of Mobley and Turrentine. But he’s no young fogey and what he does is genuinely creative and new – fire matched with real melodic purpose.
There’s a sense that by the closing Lazy Blinker, with its guest slots, that it’s all been said. This is very much a band album and better left at that. For me this is up there with the Barkers, Sheppards and Baptistes of the UK scene.

REVIEW BY MASSIMO RICCI - Gareth Roberts Quintet - July 2006
When one listens to a new release three times in about ten hours - which I did here - it usually means we're in presence of something truly special. I can only be thankful that young players like these ones still exist, people capable of writing music that's at one and the same time respectful of the tradition, accessible and gifted with virtuosism, music that will have you feeling much better after you've finished listening to it.
