ABOUT RHINO
Rhino Records in Claremont, California was opened in 1976 by the Rhino label (the reigning champs of repackaging, reissuing, and recycling hits and misses from yesteryear) which sold off its retail operations in 1981. We have been independently owned and operated ever since.
We used to be located in a tiny shack selling punk and love beads next to a Bric-A-Brac Outlet and an "Aura Cleansing" parlor. In 1990, we moved into a 6000 square-foot box located on the corner of Yale and Bonita Avenues, and set about filling it with music.
The Rhino shopping experience will remind you of the way record stores were in the good ol' days. We carry a plethora of obscure and diverse titles: from our weighty progressive rock and electronic sections, to our rock, classical, and whathaveyou bins. Thousands of new and used LPs own the area next to the Rhino stage, which has been graced by Soul Coughing, MXPX, Kristen Hersh, Jimmy Eat World, The Mountain Goats, John Doe, and a wealth of others. We also carry a large selection of fascinating and unique toys, books, shirts, stickers, and other off the beaten path chotchkes. Additionally, the Rhino sales floor is manned by the most knowledgable and helpful staff in music retail, so if you can't find your way through the store, we'll guide you.
Jimmy Eat World In-Store
Claremont is a pleasant 40-minute drive east of Los Angeles. Our store is located in the Claremont Village, just a stone's throw away from the world-renowned Claremont Colleges. The Village is a picturesque and storied living amalgamation of the clashing local colors, from ultra-suave fine dining establishments, to a coffee house down the street where Jewel and Beck used to play, to the Folk Music Center, which is owned and operated by Ben Harper's family.
On your way into town, tune into 88.7 FM KSPC and hear the latest in the world of underground sounds. Don't forget that Rhino is air-conditioned, UV Free and Wooly on top!
