Wicked Stitch (Wicked Stitch)

Wicked Stitch's 1995 self-titled debut cd

About Me

In 1993, bassist Jason "Durb" Durbin and drummer Brian Holland moved from Kettle Falls, WA. to Spokane, WA. to form a band. They hooked up with an amazing guitarist named Sean Van Blaricom. Together they formed Wicked Stitch. Durb's best friend Krush Kulesza was asked to be the band's frontman. They wrote about 10 songs and played a show at the Big Dipper in Spokane, opening for some friends in a band called Washaway World. Shortly after the show, Sean announced he was moving back to Montana. Brian soon left Spokane back to Kettle Falls. Krush went on to follow other interests, while Durb formed a new band called Tonguengroove with guitarist Brandon Kish, guitarst/vocalist Jeff Burk, and his brother, drummer extraordinaire, Chad Burk. They played a few shows and then disbanded. But Durb and Chad had a really good chemistry and friendship as well. Around this time, Sean Van Blaricom told Durb he was moving back to Spokane. Thus, the second lineup of Wicked Stitch was being born. Durb was excited to mold the incredible guitar playing of Sean with the superb drumming of Chad. They started writing and rehearsing, still without a singer. Sean worked at Perkins with a fellow by the name of Forest Violette, who said he was a singer/songwriter. He came over and met us. We have him a tape of some of the songs he had to learn in about a week, for we had already booked studio time. As a four-piece, we had not even rehearsed before we recorded. It turned out surprisingly well. The self-titled Wicked Stitch album was recorded at Joe Chatterton's studios, engineered by local musician Bobby Patterson. It was recorded in 13 and a half hours for just over $100. It consisted of some songs written from the first lineup, as well as a few new tunes, as well as an acoustic number "Away From Me", penned by Violette. They went on to play a number of local shows, but not to much fanfare. This lineup would soon disband, but the debut album remains a cornerstone of the Wicked Stitch sound.I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4
