About Me

Born and raised in the Los Angeles area, Don Libido is a life-long Hip Hop enthusiast. Greatly influenced by Hip Hop music from all regions of the United States and the world, Don Libido songs cover a wide variety of topics, including politics, religion, your mother, poverty, the ego, drugs, sex and the perils of heavy beer drinking. He also enjoys making fun of mediocre lyricists. In 1999, Libido relocated from Los Angeles to New Orleans, where he found himself appalled by rap coming from both the mainstream and underground. Rather than simply complain about his dissatisfaction with the music, he decided to record his own unique sound. In 2004, The Don passed along a demo tape to Blaknificent of the Psychoward DJs, who found his style a refreshing change from most contemporary rap music. By August of 2004, Blaknif and Libido began recording. Throughout the remainder of 2004 and much of 2005, Orleanians were able to get a taste of their music at local shows, performing at such notable venues as The Hi Ho Lounge and Dragon's Den. Determined to cultivate the scene in the Gulf Coast, both Libido and DJ Blaknificent performed music that invoked the Golden Age of Hip Hop without sounding dated. Their first album, beats exclusively by Blaknificent, never came to pass, as Katrina fucked up opportunities for getting down to business (wanted to release the album by December of 2005, but you know, post-Apocalyptic NOLA and all). After several months of dealing with the trauma of readjusting to life in a world where flood water lines on uninhabitable homes and a city that smells like ass and McNuggets became the norm, The Don is back in the studio collaborating with other New Orleans artists. The Under the Influence Sessions , will be available 2008, provided no other natural disasters set us back. Also in the works are three side projects: Brian Pelican's Non Valide Pour Voyager (more of a Blues album, really, with a healthy dose of Hip Hop), The Slick Bastards' Crawfish Circuit album (a collaboration with DJ Tony Skratchere) and the Libigula EP (Libigula being Don Libido and Caligula [AKA Godz Violence]). Please contact the artist directly for additional details and join Don Libido's online discussion group at donlibido.tribe.net and visit the official Don Libido website at donlibido.com for information on shows, future releases, tours, etc.I edited my profile with The Baby Jesus Messiah V4.4Don Libido's Colonel Sanders' Tijuana Picnic Mix TapeNew limited edition Don Libido mix tape comes with extra crispy fried chicken! Blaknificent of the Psychoward DJs does the beats sometimes, othertimes tracks are made with John Mark Turner, even other times the beat might come from Impulss, The Able Chris or even your mother if she can beat box. Don Libido does the rhymes. You've been marked on my visitor map! Click to zoom in.

Sounds Like: In a nutshell, I rap, therefore I do those hand gestures and say "yo" quite a bit. But in particular my style may only be compared to that of the Baby Jesus pimping the universe in the wink of his eye as Lord Shiva does the hustle to the sounds of infinite souls regurgitated by Brahma, over a fresh ass breakbeat, of course. The thing is, while I respect and have learned from countless emcees, I don't sound like any of them.
