VIRELLA is the instrumental project of guitarist/composer Julio Virella.
He has been a professional guitarist for over 25 years. He was born in
the beautiful city of Ponce, Puerto Rico. It was there that he began
playing guitar. In the early seventies he moved to New York and began playing in many bands in the New City area. He studied jazz guitar with
the great Skeeter Best a jazz guitarist/educator in New York City.
He is at home on both the stage and in the recording studio, as he has
done countless recording sessions and shows. Julio has appeared in
many recordings from Smooth Jazz to Progressive Rock and from Hip-Hop
to Fusion. He has worked with Sammy Peralta “On The Oneâ€, a smooth
jazz CD produced by Lenny White. He also recorded with percussionists Bobby Sanabria and the great Gumbi Ortiz. In 2000 he released “Under
the Virgin Oakâ€, a collection of new age and fusion music.
His style is diverse with many influences, including rock, jazz and fusion.
Julio has just completed his second solo CD of eclectic instrumental music titled UNBROKEN to be released this year. The music is a collection of many influences from Acid Jazz to Latin Jazz and from Rock to Fusion.
