THE VORTEX JAZZ CLUB. London 31st JANUARY 2007. GIG REVIEW by Chris Parker “…Schwarz has an engaging, unaffected vocal style particularly well suited to the blues, and Koral is a neat but cogent guitarist, so their partnership is a natural one, and their gigs are immediately accessible, enjoyable affairs.”
THE INDEPENDENT ON SUNDAY. 18th August 2007. Jazz & Blues - THE FIVE BEST GIGS by Roger Trapp "The bluesy vocals of Zoë Schwarz have won a significant following in the West Country. Her combination with the guitarist Rob Koral helps place her apart from many other female vocalists. A new CD is on the way. Café Rouge, Bournemouth.”
PIZZA EXPRESS Dean Street Oct 2005 “Vocalist/songwriter Zoë Schwarz and guitarist/composer Rob Koral have forged one of the most engagingly natural partnerships in jazz” –
WINDSOR ARTS CENTRE - 3rd March 2007 By Graham Steel Zoe Schwarz & Rob Koral performed some sultry jazz & blues with there quartet coinciding with the eclipse of the moon! A great night full of standards and original material, featuring a soulful voice and sublime guitar playing.
Dancing For Miles (33jazz092) and Devil Or Dove(33jazz121)
"In her notes, Schwarz explains that this particular songs inspiration came from the harsh treatment handed out to Billie Holiday by men and the lyrics have a contemporary commitment that might well bring it into GENERAL USE AMOUNG FEMALE SINGERS. I imagine that Schwarz and Koral are building a following with their live gigs in the UK and this CD should help spread the word."
Jazz Journal International Sept05 by Bruce CrowtherBIOGRAPHY Zoë and Rob's musical partnership has been going strong these past four years. During this period they have covered a lot of musical ground, initially performing in local wine-bars and progressing quickly to established gigs such as Ronnie Scott’s, Pizza Express-Dean Street, Stables-Wavendon, Lighthouse-Poole and many festivals. Coming from different musical beginnings (Zoë from a formal classical background and Rob from a bluesier upbringing) seems to work to their advantage, creating a distinct chemistry combining musical sensitivity and sensibility. This has manifested itself in their careful choice of standard tunes and their ability to write strong and concise original compositions.
