About Me

Back from Finland! What's up SoulsaGente! We just got back from our first overseas show in Helsinki Finland and it was an amazing experience! We were pleasantly surprised at how Latin music is so loved and appreciated in all parts of the world. We performed at the nearby town of Vantaa as part of a Latin music festival where we performed a full 2 hour show of all of our original music plus encores. The Finish definitely know how to rock out and dance their butts off! To our friends and fans that have already written to us regarding photos, We have just added a new photo album with many photos from the trip. We also want to give a big thank you to all of you that gave us their well wishes. Abrazos to all of you!

Recently, Soulsa had the pleasure of performing with mexican pop group called Grupo Jeans. The show was a special event held at the famous Radio City Music Hall in NYC and was televised in Latin TV channel Telemundo. We had a great time!
Soulsa was also the backup band for Latin Grammy winner Laura Pausini. We perfomed at the Central Park Summerstage for People en Espanol's 2006 FIESTA event in front of thousands. It was an amazing night! Guitarist/Lead vocalist Alberto Diaz receives a write up on Guitar Player Magazine! (11/06)
Create Your Own! Thanks for dropping by SOULSA's profile here at MySpace.com! First! We want to thank everyone for showin' us love and leaving those wonderful comments but please keep the pasted images and animation to a minimum! (seriously, we've had our fill of tweety bird images that say "dropping by to show some love"!) It really slows everything down when other people visit the profile! If you comment was removed it was simply because the image you attached really slows everything down. A nice hello or comment goes a long way because we know it came from the heart! Now for the MUSIC!!! We have our own self released CD and we've posted 6 songs for you to enjoy. If you'd like to hear more, drop by our main website at: www.soulsaband.com![SOULSA BIO]"An urban voice that grows with every performance". Those are the words that El Diario, the largest Spanish language newspaper in New York City, used to describe Soulsa.Soulsa is an established Latin band that provides an exciting mix of Caribbean rhythms and modern rock music. The group was formed in 2002 in Washington Heights, a New York City neighborhood known for embracing Latin music and culture. With a sound that is both classic and modern, Soulsa's music contains the groove of classic salsa with the raw energy of a nyc rock band. To create a fresh sound, Soulsa replaces traditional salsa instruments like horns and piano with the modern sounds of the electric guitar resulting in a more “stripped-down” sound without ever loosing their Caribbean roots. The intense percussion from Juan Gerena, Antonio Rodriguez and Anibal Collazo compmliments the electric guitar resulting in a sound that is both primal and energetic - without ever losing the roots of Caribbean music and classic rock. Its essentially Rock with Clave y Sentimiento! But most importantly, Soulsa's essence comes from its original compositions. Songwriters Alberto Diaz and Luis Batista create sophisticated and humorous songs that reflect the daily lives, struggles and triumphs of Latinos.Soulsa has played in a variety of venues through out New York City including Nuyorican Poets Café, China Club, Southpaw, D’Antigua and Gonzalez & Gonzalez. They have also headlined at multiple private events for Oscar de la Renta, VOGUE magazine, Havana FilmFestival and Time Warner's publishing division Time Inc. The band received national recognition when they performed during Telemundo’s nationally syndicated morning show “Hoy en la Mañanita” and was invited for an encore for the midday news program. ..

This December, our song "Elena" was selected by the editors of Global Rhythm Magazine to be featured at their website! This is the second time Soulsa has had one of their songs selected by their editors of Global Rhythm Magazine and Ourstage.com.

Influences: Afro-Cuban, Dominican and Puerto Rican music from the 60's through the late 70's. Everthing from Maelo, Beny Moré, to Willie Colón & Hector Lavoe, El Gran Combo, Oscar D' Leon, Ruben Blades and music from the FANIA label. Classic rock from The Beatles, Zeppelin, Hendrix and NY Punk and Hardcore (Bad Brains, Cro-Mags). And while not an influence that's seen on a first listen but nevertheless, still there, Soul music from Motown (Holland-Dozier-Holland) to Philly Soul (Gamble and Huff). All good music that has heart passion, celebrates life and has social perspective.
Sounds Like: Our sound is a fusion of classic Salsa music from the 50's through the 70's and classic rock like The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix and Led Zepplelin
Record Label: Quisqueya Heights Records
Type of Label: Indie
