MyGen Profile GeneratorHi Guys,My Name is Gerry O' Malley and I've been writing songs for many years now. I think I probably started writing because I was too lazy to learn other peoples songs and I also found it to be a great form of meditation and relaxation. I like all sorts of writing really and along with a couple of friends, wrote a play called Stages, that went on in theatres in Dublin during 2005. It was pretty successful(made enough to pay the actors with a bit to spare). I'm currently working on what I hope will be the final draft of a film and have enjoyed the whole experience so far. Anyway, back to music... I came from a backround of folk and Irish traditional music playing mandolin and buzouki. I enjoyed it but found it a bit restricting. I eventually started playing guitar and writing songs in a more contemporary mode. About ten years ago I started working with an extremely talented Musician and composer...who also happened to be my brother Martin.(See myspace.com/gerryandmartinomalley). We made an album together called Freeflow in 2001, recorded in Malbay studios in Co. Clare. The album got a fair bit of air play and we learned a lot from it. We are currently working on another album...this time bringing in singers, such as Paul Byrne(Put it out there)and Barry kirwan(Said you loved me) and my sister Rita Byrne to maximise the potential of the songs. I'm also working with another friend of mine, guitarist Mick Birch. We're enjoying the whole experience and, for me anyway. thats the main thing.
